Ponchatoula Area Recreation District #1 (Ponchatoula Recreation Park) is a recreational facility offering a wide range of activities for southern Tangipahoa Parish. Our complex is located on a beautiful 90 acre tract of land off Hoover Road just east of Ponchatoula. Our facility has a mile long paved walking/jogging trail that is enjoyed daily by many people throughout the area. We have a playground with many activities for young children. A large pavilion offers a perfect place for families to spend time together for birthday parties, school functions, and other social events. We have many football and baseball fields for recreational leagues for children of all ages. A pond stocked with fish allows people without a boat a chance to enjoy catch and release fishing. The indigenous live oaks and pine trees along with other landscaped areas offer a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors. Our state of the art double gymnasium, completed this year, includes two courts, a concession area, walking track and conference room. Recreation District Board Members:

🍂 PARD Miles: Autumn Adventure Update! 🍂

We’ve got lots of new faces joining the adventure this week, so welcome to the PARD Miles Challenge, everyone! 👟🌿 We’re so glad you’re here!

Our community has officially logged 302 miles toward our 1,000-mile goal! 🎉

And we have some new milestone achievers to celebrate:

🍁 Franklin, Tyler & Rosa have reached 25+ miles and earned their First Leaf milestone!

🎃 Dee & Mattie have reached 50+ miles and earned their Autumn Stroller milestone!

Every walk, jog, lap and mile is helping move our community closer to that 1,000-mile goal. And remember, you don’t have to start at the beginning to join the adventure. You can jump in anytime and start logging your miles!

Let’s keep those feet moving and see how far we can travel together. 🍂👟

This week’s photo comes to us from a mystery nature observer who has chosen to remain anonymous. So, for now, we shall know them as… Nature Fan #1! 🌿🔎

Their photo captures a beautiful egret patiently waiting at Pete’s Lake, keeping a close eye on the water and watching for the perfect opportunity to snag a meal. 🐟

There’s something pretty special about catching these little moments at PARD. You never quite know who you’ll spot when you slow down and take a look around!

Practice, games, warm Louisiana weather, and lots of running around can make young athletes lose fluids quickly. Staying hydrated helps them feel their best, stay focused, and keep their bodies ready to move!

Encourage your athlete to sip water throughout the day, not just when they feel thirsty. 💦 A water bottle packed alongside their sports gear is an easy way to make hydration part of the routine.

🌿✏️ A little curiosity, a little creativity, and a whole lot of nature!

Our second Fall Into Nature class, Nature Journaling with Alicia Barnes, was a wonderful evening of slowing down and paying attention to the world around us. 🌱🔎

Participants learned about the art of nature journaling before heading outdoors with their journals and their curiosity in tow. They made observations, asked questions, explored their surroundings, and captured their discoveries on the pages of their journals. There’s something pretty special about taking the time to really notice what’s happening right outside your door! 🐌🍃

A huge thank-you to our wonderful presenter, Louisiana Master Naturalist Alicia Barnes, for sharing her time, knowledge, and love of nature with us. 💚
