Berkshire County Sheriff's Office Berkshire Sheriff's Office oversees inmates housed at the BCHC The Berkshire County Sheriff's Office is the largest law enforcement agency in Berkshire County.

Located in Pittsfield, MA., the Sheriff's Office oversees the county Jail and House of Correction. We currently hold dual accreditation with the American Correctional Association (ACA) as well as the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC). Partnerships involving Sheriff's Deputies include: Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force, FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), US Marshalls Task Force, FBI Western MA Gang Task Force, DEA, Anti-Crime Unit, Special Response Team (SRT), Berkshire County Dive Team, and 2nd Street 2nd Chances. The Sheriff's Office is headed by Sheriff Thomas Bowler, who was elected Sheriff in 2010 after serving over 24 years with the Pittsfield Police Department as a detective. Please be advised that for the next two weeks, staff from the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting fi****ms training at the range located at the Cheshire Rod & Gun Club.

Training will take place daily between the hours of 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM during this period.

We appreciate the community’s support, patience, and understanding while our staff complete this important training.

Team BCSO had an amazing time attending the 6th Annual Adams Street Fair! It was a wonderful day filled with great people, community connections, and plenty of fun.

We truly enjoyed getting out into the community, meeting so many amazing residents, and being part of such a fantastic event. Events like this are a great reminder of what makes our communities so special.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and to the organizers and volunteers who helped make the day such a success!

Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the countless heroes who answered the call during one of our nation’s darkest days.

We also remember the members of our own team who stepped forward. Staff from our facility responded to New York to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts, standing alongside law enforcement, firefighters, EMS personnel, and countless other brave individuals who came together to help.

Their courage, compassion, and willingness to serve during such an unimaginable tragedy represents the very best of the public safety profession.

Today, we honor those who were lost, those who served, those who continue to carry the memories of that day, and the families who were forever changed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Team BCSO had a great morning yesterday hosting coffee with the community at the Dunham Mall, where we had the opportunity to connect with community members, local business leaders, and friends from throughout the area.

These conversations are so important. Sitting down over a cup of coffee gives us the opportunity to listen, share ideas, hear different perspectives, and talk about how we can continue working together to build a stronger, safer, and more connected community.

Building a stronger community doesn’t happen alone, it happens when residents, businesses, and public safety come together, communicate, and work toward a common goal.

The Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a phone scam involving an individual claiming to work for the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller is reportedly identifying himself as “Kevin Brown” and contacting members of our community while requesting personal information.

⚠️ Please be advised: The Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office does not call members of the public and request sensitive personal information.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be “Kevin Brown” or any other individual representing the Sheriff’s Office and asking for personal information:

📵 Hang up immediately.
🚫 Do not provide any personal or financial information.
📞 Contact your local police department to report the call.

Please share this message with family, friends, and neighbors, especially those who may be more vulnerable to phone scams.

When in doubt, hang up and verify. Stay alert and help us keep our community safe.
