Paddlefish at Chautauqua. What a remarkable day of racing. Against all odds we held our own to get bronze in the Premier Division.

Open Paddle Session with the Pittsburgh Paddlefish Dragon Boat Team

If you're interested in trying a new sport and looking for a great community, come paddle with the Pittsburgh Paddlefish. Join us for a dragon boat open paddle session on June 20th at 10:30 am.

During the session, you'll be out on the water with the team and others who are new to dragon boating. Our head coach will provide instruction both on land and on the water, so you’ll know exactly what to do while still having a great time.

So what exactly is dragon boating? Dragon boating originated in China over 2,000 years ago and has grown into a popular sport worldwide, including right here in Pittsburgh. It’s a team sport with 20 paddlers (seated in pairs), plus a drummer and a steersperson, all working together to move a long boat through the water.

The Pittsburgh Paddlefish have been paddling for over 20 years and are always excited to bring new people into the sport. Our team is open to adults who enjoy being on the water, staying active, and being part of a supportive social group. Racing is optional, but the camaraderie comes with the territory.
