Photo of the Marietta, Ohio lead plate, left by a 1749 French expedition to claim territory along the Ohio River for France. Six plates were placed at different locations, from Warren, Pa, Franklin Pa, Wheeling WV, Marietta, Oh, Point Pleasant, WV and Cincinnati, Oh. Two of the 11" X 7" X 1" thick plates were recovered - in Marietta, found in 1798, and at Point Pleasant, 1846.
