The RMU Island Sports Center is excited to once again be part of the Little Penguins Learn to Play Hockey Program presented by Dicks Sporting Goods, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation

This program is a great opportunity for children aged 5-9 to break into the game of ice hockey...NO ICE SKATING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED!

The RMU Island Colonials Youth Development League is a great place to learn, develop, and train in a fun and competitive atmosphere.

We offer divisions at the 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 16/18U levels.

Dear SHAHA Families,

To know the Scobel family is a privilege, and to be part of the same hockey family is truly a blessing.

Anyone who knows Abe knows how much he loves hockey, and it’s easy to see where that passion comes from. His dad, Jim, shares that same love for the game. Jim isn’t just there cheering for Abe—he cheers for every player, encourages the kids, and has a way of making everyone feel like family.

Recently, Jim and his family received the difficult news that he has pancreatic cancer. Now it’s our turn to rally around a family that has given so much love and support to all of us.

16U Team Nemmer is organizing a T-shirt fundraiser in honor of Jim and the Scobel family. By purchasing and wearing a shirt, we can show Jim, Abe, and their entire family that a whole hockey community stands beside them.

Every December, teams from Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New York and beyond descend on RMU Island Sports Center for a week filled with big saves, bigger goals, holiday cheer…and maybe a few post-Christmas turkey legs still being worked off. 😂

With a maximum of 100 teams, there’s only so much room under the Nutcracker tree. 🎄

It’s almost time for one of our favorite events of the year—the 4th Annual Hockey Equipment Swap!

Join us on Sunday, August 23rd, from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM on the Gardens Rink at the Robert Morris Island Sports Center.
We’re currently collecting gently used, good-condition hockey equipment to help make this event a success. Donations of the following items are greatly appreciated:
● Sticks
● Shin pads
● Elbow pads
● Chest protectors
● Hockey pants
● Gloves
● Skates
● Uniforms/Jerseys
● Shells
● Equipment bags
● Hockey socks
Please do not donate helmets.

Donation Drop-Off Options
Donating is easy!
● Drop equipment into one of the two collection bins located in the RMU lobby anytime before the event.
● Or bring your donations during one of our collection times:
● Thursday, August 20: 5:00–8:00 PM
● Friday, August 21: 5:00–8:00 PM
● Saturday, August 22: 12:00–8:00 PM
Every piece of equipment donated helps keep hockey affordable and gives more kids the opportunity to stay on the ice. Your generosity truly makes a difference for hockey families in our community.

One of our most asked questions is do you have to donate something to shop and the answer is no- everyone is welcome! We open the event to all players and families from any hockey organization. Likewise, donations are welcomed from any team or association—the more gear we collect, the more players we can help.

Whether you’re cleaning out the garage, replacing old equipment, or looking for gear for the upcoming season, we hope you’ll join us in making this year’s Equipment Swap our biggest one yet!
