Cyclists and pedestrians can still enter the park from the trail in Sharpsburg, but it is for pedestrians and bikes only - NO vehicles. Business as usual will continue tomorrow 🙂

Volunteer with us for a couple of hours this Sunday, August 30th!

Join our network of volunteers and help keep the park beautiful by joining our Summer Clean-Up Series. Held monthly throughout the season, these hands-on volunteer days are a great way to give back, get outside, and make a visible impact in the park you love.

From 10am-12pm, volunteers will take part in a variety of meaningful projects that help maintain and improve the space for everyone. Lend your skills to weeding and planting, cleaning up park grounds, or even refinishing park furniture and fencing. Whether you’re a seasoned DIYer or just ready to roll up your sleeves, there’s a task for everyone.

Many years ago, the deep scarlet blossoms of the cardinal flower captivated explorers, today it still captivates park goers and hummingbirds in our very own wetland habitat. 🗺️

The flower was dubbed the “cardinal flower” after explorers connected its rich colored blossoms to the scarlet red traditionally worn by Roman Catholic Cardinals.

The flower made its way from North America to Europe, adding a brilliant pop of color to gardens - but the cardinal flower is more than just its beauty!

🪶The blooms are tubular in shape, perfect for the long bill of Hummingbirds; making them an easily accessible and vital late-summer food source.

💦The cardinal flower thrives in wet soil, absorbing run off, stabilizing wet soil and helping control erosion.

❌🦌The flower contains toxic alkaloids, giving the foliage an unpleasant smell and taste, making the plant generally deer and rabbit resistant.

The cup plant is a tall perennial flower of the Asteraceae family. The stem of the plant grows large leaves, opposite of each other around the stem. The leaves form a cup-like basin, giving the plant its name. The leaf formed cup collects rainwater and dew for insects and birds to enjoy.

But that's not all!

If you look closer at the flowers of the cup plants you are able to see it is not one flower, but many tiny flowers growing close together making it appear as a single bloom... This is an example of pseudanthium; when many flowers called florets grow tightly packed together and appear as one bloom.

The cup plant provides a natural bird bath, supports wildlife, improves garden biodiversity, and attracts pollinators with its bright yellow florets.

The cup plant is a great example of how one plant, animal, insect, or person can have many positive impacts on the world around them, just by being who they are!

We’re excited to announce that after some crazy weather last month, is coming back for the last show of the 2026 Summer Concert Series, opening for on September 11th.

About the bands:

💛 Norside - Anchored by a deep-pocket rhythm section and fearless improvisation, this organ trio brings a raw, no-frills energy that feels both timeless and unmistakably of the moment. Norside’s identity isn’t revivalist, it’s lived-in.

🎸 The Clarks - The four original Clarks members Scott Blasey (vocals, acoustic guitar), Rob James (6 and 12-string electric guitars, vocals), Greg Joseph (bass, vocals) and Dave Minarik (drums, vocals) first met while students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in the late 80’s.

With a highlight reel that includes The Late Show with David Letterman, The Simpsons, and most recently The Pitt amongst others, The Clarks are enjoying their time together as a band now more than ever. Singing and playing new songs and celebrating 40 years together has rekindled a fire in the band’s sometimes broken, sometimes mended hearts.
