This is the thought process behind why we pressure test at each belt level. Increasing your resilience, developing a quietness in the face of adversity, and finding a way to overcome your fear and adrenaline are skills that take time and practice.

Promotions are a special thing in jiu jitsu. There are only five adult belts, and everyone starts with the first. Each level upgrade is a big deal, so many who start at the beginning of one never make it to the next. No belt is "easy" to acquire. These belts certainly came with their share of struggle.

It is always great to see people progress, perform, and prosper. We are glad to have been able to be a part of their journey and look forward to many more milestones for each of them in the future.

Air conditioning is fixed. We apologize for the last few, sweaty days.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

We are still trying to get the A/C fixed. Tonight will again be gi optional, and we expect it to be pretty warm in the gym.

If you are coming, please plan for the heat. A towel, some water, and a cool disposition will help. We have fans to keep the air circulating, but it is July in NC, so there is only so much we can do.

We apologize for the inconvenience. We have been assured that there will be some progress tomorrow morning.

The guard is one of the main positions that separates jiu jitsu from other martial arts. The ability to continue to fight and win from your back is the backbone of self defense against a larger, more aggressive, opponent.

This month, we are focusing on developing a strong guard designed to deal with defending strikes, slams, and passing attempts. We will explore the concepts of finishing opponents with submissions as well as sweeping and getting back on top.
