Today I was reminded of something I’ve learned through experience. Not everyone is who you thought they were, and sometimes the hardest lessons come from the people you never expected to learn them from. I’ve learned that you can have a genuine heart, support others, and want to see everyone succeed, and that still won’t stop some people from speaking negatively about you and/or your business or trying to change the way others see you. People may misunderstand you, misrepresent you, or even speak on your name when you’re not in the room. You don’t have to chase down every rumor or defend yourself to everyone who has only heard one side of the story or been told something that simply isn’t true.
My character will speak for itself. My work will speak for itself. The relationships I’ve built and the people who truly know me will speak for themselves. If you ever question something you’ve heard about me, come to me, ask me, and see for yourself. More than anything, I hope anyone who may have ever been discouraged from coming to me won’t let someone else’s opinion keep them from doing so. I would much rather someone form their own opinion based on their experience with me than believe someone else’s version of who I am.
At Danceology by Jordan, everyone is welcome! It doesn’t matter what studio you dance at, what team you’re on, who you take lessons from, or where you call your dance home. My door is open to any dancer who wants to learn, grow, work hard, and become more confident in themselves. I will never ask a dancer to choose sides or make them feel like they can’t learn from someone else. There is room for all of us in this industry to be successful without tearing someone else down. I will never understand trying to dim someone else’s light just to make your own shine brighter.
So I’ll keep doing what I love and pouring into my dancers. I know my heart, I know my intentions, and I know my truth. I know the work I’ve put in to build what I have. And I refuse to let someone else’s words make me question any of that. At the end of the day, people will eventually recognize the difference between what’s being said and what’s actually being shown. Sometimes the best response is simply to keep going and let time reveal what words never could. At the end of the day, you don’t have to take anyone’s word for who I am. Come see for yourself! My doors are always open 🫶🏼
