Why eat alone when you can have a full on dinner party?? Charlie’s back stall has a bar removed that lets the minis join him at night. Some nights the pigs and chickens join in. This is one of the endless daily inspirations that help me create my Penelope and Macaroni books!

Riding in the Arizona summers can be rough. It’s going to be 107 today! But the beautiful monsoon clouds are out and provide some cover.
Fun Charlie fact: Did you know that I have never put a bit in Charlie’s mouth? Since the day I got him nine years ago we have ridden bitless. I switched to bitless with my OTTB Harley about 12 years ago and he loved it so I just started Charlie that way. If you have ever thought about it, I highly recommended giving it a try. My bitless bridles are all from Dr. Cook and I just love them! Let me know if you have other good brands or bitless experiences!

My life flashed before my eyes today. Horses were in the turnouts and we found Charlie in this position 😭 called fire department immediately but my incredible boyfriend and heaven sent neighbors came armed with sawzalls. Charlie’s heart was pounding as fast as mine but he stayed so calm and still. They cut the rails down just as the fire truck with seven guys (I told 911 I needed “a bunch of strong guys”) arrived. What a reminder how fragile these gorgeous creatures really are. Charlie is all bandaged up and will be receiving more than the usual (large) amount of treats and kisses for the next long while.
And just to prove I win the my neighbors are the best neighbors in the world game, they came back and welded the rails back on after dinner 😭
