Congratulations to this sweet couple on their vow renewal. 💍 It was our pleasure to choreograph this fun medley to show off all their hard work over the last several years.

One of the questions we get most frequently about showcase is what do I wear?

If this is your first showcase, it’s a perfect opportunity to shop your closet. Use items you already own and add a few accessories for that ballroom ✨sparkle.✨

For gentlemen, you can’t go wrong with a comfortable pair of black slacks, and a black or white button up shirt. You can always add a tie or waistcoat/vest for a more formal look.

As you become more experienced, you can buy ballroom specific shirts and jackets made out of stretchy materials that move comfortably with you on the dance floor.

Ladies, as custom-made ballroom dresses can be very expensive, we suggest students first look into purchasing ballroom specific practiceware and dressing it up with sparkly belts and rhinestones necklaces, bracelets, and earrings for a more formal look before committing to a couture gown.

For smooth heats, most ladies opt for a tea or ankle length dress. Be sure to practice in your dress before competing, as you want to make sure the hemline is short enough that you don’t catch your heel on it while stepping backwards.

For rhythm heats it’s fun to show off a little more. Think higher hemlines, tassels and ruffles, and anything that shows off the sharp movement of the rhythm dances.

It can also be helpful to have shoes specific to the style of dance you were doing. Ballroom shoes are made for movement with their flexible arch, and suede bottoms.

For ladies, smooth shoes generally have a closed toe, and a slightly lower heel. Rhythm shoes are generally open toe, strappier, and have a higher heel to help with forward poise.

Also don’t forget your garment bag and warm-up jacket. Your garment bag is the perfect spot to store your change of clothes at the event. And it’s always nice to have a jacket to stay warm between heats.
