Michelle | Birth to Five Mental Health | I help parents support their child's attachment!
1 in 5. That’s how many new and expecting parents experience a perinatal mental health condition.
Not 1 in 100. Not rare. 1 in 5.
And yet — most don’t know where to turn, or that what they’re feeling even has a name.
Even being in the field that I’m in, I didn’t recognize my postpartum anxiety while I was in it.
I thought it was what everyone experienced—I thought I needed to just tough it out and get through it.
In hindsight, I realized I was really struggling with postpartum anxiety, and I wish that I got support instead of struggling through it alone.
May is Maternal Mental Health Month. This is our moment to connect the dots: between the statistic
and the story. Between the person struggling and the support that exists.

Here is my perspective as a birth to five mental health specialist and mom to 2.
Criticism of the sleep training process is directed at the creators and trainers, not parents trying to do what’s best for their children.
I’m sure I missed some points and wasn’t able to fully elaborate as this video got long. 😅
What are your thoughts? Have you had this worry?
For many, choosing to co-sleep is the only way their family can get good sleep and it’s the best decision they have made for their family. ♥️
It’s already normalized! The pushback that’s happening in recent years is because it shouldn’t be! You don’t need to re-normalize it!
Remember that your baby is brand new here!
I just take my baby along with me whether that’s me holding her, wearing her, or setting her in the bouncer, and have her observe what I’m doing.
To add connection and language practice, I talk to her out loud about what I’m doing, whether that’s naming the laundry I’m folding (the color, what it is, who wears it), narrating the process of cleaning, or facing her and making eye contact while I’m brushing my teeth.
It’s easy to think we need to be doing more with all of the “baby activity ideas” we see online, but they are just interested in the new world around them.
This doesn’t mean it’s always easy. My first child would only be content for a few min and preferred to be moved around a lot. My daughter tolerates a little more, but I’m still having to hold her and move the majority of the time.
I’m sure this might be an unpopular opinion for some, but I’m curious how you view screen time and use it with your family?!

Not to mention, you think the only place you can do it is in your bed at nighttime? BORING! *I have another Reel on this
