Every crash represents a person, a family, and a community affected by preventable traffic violence. Earlier this month, we joined the family and community of Glenn Colville Jr. to install a ghost bike at the site of his crash on Aramingo Ave, a street that's been on the City's high-injury network since 2017.
The flex post delineated bike lane did not protect Glenn. Every death and serious injury is a reason to act and yet our elected leaders stall in building evidence-based interventions to improve the safety of their constituents.
Among the actions needed to make our streets safe is the legalization of parking protected bike lanes in Pennsylvania. Communities across the Commonwealth have spoken up. Thousands of residents have signed petitions. Municipal planners, engineers, mayors, and local officials have all said the same thing: they need these types of bike lanes to be legalized to build safer streets.
