Dive Deep into Locking with Marcus Tucker in September!
September 1-29
Tuesdays 7-8:00pm
@ 2100 Chestnut
The Deep Dive is a program designed for the advanced beginner. An advanced beginner is someone who possibly danced for many years, but is coming off of hiatus. Or an advanced beginner is someone who has been taking class or participating in street dance culture for 1-2 years, gaining comfort and confidence along the way. The advanced beginner has a solid understanding of the mechanics and is ready to deepen their exploration of vocabulary, style and expression.
The Deep Dive plunges participants into street dance foundations. Each month the deep dive will cycle between locking, hip hop and house. Each month long course aims to provide students with knowledge that will prepare them to take further strides with each dance form.
Locking
Created in the 1970s by Don Campbell, locking is often considered as street dances first form. Locking is all about funk. Along with deepening one’s relation to funk, locking supports dancers’ development of precision, line, rhythm, groove and character.
