AI tools are currently being used to help make decisions about the humans we serve.
These tools are being used inside child welfare, criminal justice, healthcare, and housing systems.
I’m not sharing this to create alarm.
I’m sharing it because social workers need to know what is already happening in the systems we work inside, and understand that our expertise belongs in the conversation about how these tools get built and used.
The populations we serve are already being impacted. The only question is whether we will be in the room to make sure those impacts are fair, ethical, and informed by clinical reality and actual human experiences.
This is the time. Find a way to get a sat at these tables.
