"I challenged one of my clients to do something that absolutely terrified them last week.
They’ve been struggling with a massive leadership hurdle: Letting Go.
The challenge? Put their phone on ""Do Not Disturb"" for three whole hours during the workday. No checking emails, no answering slacks, no putting out fires.
The result?
While they were offline, their team stepped up and solved the problems on their own.
My client came back and told me, ""This felt so good, I gotta do this again.""
Micro-managing doesn’t just exhaust you; it accidentally suffocates your team's ability to grow.
When you step back, you give your team the room to step up.
How do you practice letting go as a leader? Let me know in the comments below!"

I am working with a SVP in Retail, an amazing person, an amazing story and a great leader.
Why would a great leader want to work with a coach?
Here is what they said:
“I don’t feel like I am in the driver’s seat of my career anymore.”
They are a leader that consistently challenges the status quo.
They are a leader that puts people first, both employees and customers, while balancing the goals and needs of the company.
“The realization has hit that I have always done what’s best for the organization, however I always felt like I was in control- until now.”
Something has changed. It’s certainly not the experience, knowledge, impact or leadership style of the leader that I am coaching.
What do you think changed?
What are some things that cause organizations to lose their top talent?

I label myself as a life-long longer and I love to read. To be honest, it is more for fun than for work.
However, I often come across a book that is full of leadership gems.
“101 Lessons from the Dugout”, by Harley Rotbart, MD & Ken Davidoff is one of those gems. “What Baseball and Softball Can Teach Us About the Game of Life”. Written for a younger audience, I am young at heart, so it resonated quickly.
Here is one of those gems I wanted to share:
“You are the right person at the right time. BELIEVE you can face any challenge, any time, and WANT to face that challenge. You are in the batter’s box, right where you belong”
Are you ready for your close-up?
Mastering the 30-second commercial is about more than just talking fast, it’s about preparation.
To truly own your pitch, you need a solid foundation of resources and knowledge.
Break it down into these four essential steps:
Create it: Build your message from the ground up.
Test it: See how the message lands with others.
Practice: Repeat until it’s second nature.
Execute: Deliver with confidence.
Whether you're networking or on camera, your 30 seconds should be your strongest.

True leadership isn't just about giving feedback; it's about being open to receiving it. If your team is frustrated, their productivity will plummet—and let's be honest, that’s going to frustrate you too.
To break the cycle, Alan suggests asking two critical questions in every quarterly 1-on-1:
"What should I do MORE of?" – What’s working? How can I support you better?
"What should I do LESS of?" – Am I getting in your way? Is there a habit of mine that’s slowing you down?
Don't let frustration stall your team's success. Start the conversation and see how much faster you can move together.
