Boxing Hydration- Why Are Electrolytes Important for Boxers? 🥊💧

During intense boxing training, the body loses more than just water through sweat. It also loses electrolytes—essential minerals such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium that play a key role in maintaining normal muscle function, fluid balance, and nerve signaling.

Simply drinking water may not always be enough after prolonged or high-intensity sessions….. particularly in really hot conditions. Replacing lost electrolytes can help support:

🥊 Hydration and fluid absorption
🥊 Muscle function and contraction
🥊 Nerve communication
🥊 Recovery after heavy sweating
🥊 Maintenance of electrolyte balance during training

The amount of electrolytes needed depends on factors such as training intensity, duration, sweat rate, and environmental conditions. Boxers training multiple sessions per day or in hot environments may have greater electrolyte requirements. I probably went through about two Gatorades a day training in Thailand 🇹🇭 😎 some boxers I’ve known who trained in Vegas went through three 😂

Understanding the difference between hydration and electrolyte replacement can help boxers make more informed decisions about their nutrition and hydration.

My personal favourite is Lucozade Sport Rasberry, WowHydrate or the blue Powerade 👍

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Blue Belt First Stripe🥋👊🔵

Absolutely buzzing to get my first stripe at Blue Belt on Monday from one of my coaches at Matthouse - Conor Mortimer 😁

Jiu Jitsu is a ground-based combat sport, using leverage, angles, pressure and timing to achieve submission of opponents. It focuses on close-contact “grappling” holds and techniques, and the application of chokes and joint-manipulations.

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), stripes are a way to track progress within a belt rank. They are awarded by coaches to acknowledge a student’s development in technique, knowledge, and overall skill. 4 stripes is the most you can get on your belt before being promoted to the next belt.

One of the best decisions I ever made was taking up Jiu Jitsu and it’s something I would highly recommend to anyone to get involved in. Always makes me happier after going and doing some time/rounds on the mats.

I’ve found it more difficult at Blue Belt and may have suffered from a bit of blue belt blues a couple of months ago 😂 …. But just kept being consistent, turning up, trusting the process and doing my best to listen to the coaches. Seems to be all be coming together slowly bit by bit 👍

Thankyou to Dom, Conor and Adam for all their support and being brilliant coaches/mentors at MATHOUSE BJJ 🙏 it’s very much appreciated 👊

Boxing FAQs 🤔🥊

This tutorial content is based on questions I get asked quite a lot by my clients, boxers, my coaching colleagues or anyone with a love of Boxing. These type of reels are designed to help as many people as possible and are based on my experiences working with some fantastic coaches and boxers throughout my time in the sport.

Please feel free to share, like and comment below if you agree, disagree, feel I’ve missed something or have your own experiences on the topic shared ⬇️ One of the great things about social media is knowledge sharing and if that can help someone become a better boxer then that’s what it’s all about 👍🥊

Enjoy!!

L.A Boxing - 6th Anniversary 🎂🥊

What might seem quite tragic to some but something I’m quite proud of is my business is now 6 years old today 🎂

I’ve very blessed to be able to do what I love every day. I get so much enjoyment in seeing a wide variety of clients and boxers have as much fun/benefits out of Boxing as I did when I was younger.

Achievements aside, I’m keen to focus on certain aspects of my business more. Hence I’ve taken a step back from certain elements of my coaching that I’ve been quite involved in the past 6 years. Although sad for me as I throughly enjoy every part of the coaching roles and environments I’ve been part of, I can’t spread myself too thin. God is the best planner and I’m excited to see where this journey goes.

A massive Thankyou to everyone that has played a part in my journey so far. You have all been so supportive of what I do. I appreciate you more than you will ever know.

Fathers in Boxing 🥊 🧓

Boxing has produced many father and sons relationships in its history. Lots of famous boxers had their dads train them. While lots of famous boxers have followed in their father’s footsteps.

Some good examples are:

🥊 Floyd Mayweather Jr trained by his Dad Floyd Sr
🥊 Joe Calzaghe trained by his Dad Enzo
🥊 Conor Benn following in Nigel’s Benns footsteps
🥊 Chris Eubank Jr with his Dad Chris Eubank Sr

There’s an awful lot of Dads that train their children in Amateur Boxing. As much as it’s nice to watch, there’s often this pressure that sometimes comes with having a famous father in Boxing. What you have to learn is to remember you are your own person… not the Dad and to carve out your own destiny.

Plus ignore all the criticism that your aren’t or never will be as good as your Dad 🙄😂 Part of life is sadly dealing with these people 💁‍♂️

Nice memory of Dad taking me on the pads for a tickle and quick demo to the University of Hull in 2012 during freshers week when we were trying to get people to sign up the University Boxing Team.

Happy Father’s Day 👍
