Join us at Midsection Connection for Biomechanics of the Roll-Up and All Flexion Actions, a workshop exploring the mechanics behind one of Pilates’ most familiar movement patterns.

October 10 at 1:00pm

The mechanics of the roll up are reflected across the classical Pilates repertoire and thus, will have application throughout many of the exercises found in Joe's work. Being able to identify efficient mechanics will allow teachers to readily troubleshoot why a client is unable to execute a roll up or other actions involving flexion. After identifying efficient mechanics, this will be followed up with discussion of using alternative solutions, equipment/props/no props, with these clients in any setting group/private so as to achieve the action with success.

What if your pelvic floor wasn’t something to fix, strengthen, or control, but something you could learn to feel?

On Sept. 13 at 12pm, Shannon Murphy leads Exploring the Pelvic Diaphragm, a curious, embodied exploration of the muscles and fascia at the center of your body.

We’ll move layer by layer through the pelvis using breath, imagery, movement, and Franklin Method balls to encourage circulation, mobility, proprioception, and a deeper relationship with this foundational space.

Come explore what’s happening beneath the surface. ✨

How well do you actually know your pelvic floor?

Not just how to “engage” it. How it moves. How it responds to breath. Where you hold tension. What it feels like when the whole system is working together.

Come get curious with us on Sept. 13 at 12pm for Exploring the Pelvic Diaphragm with Shannon Murphy.

Through the Franklin Method, we’ll use imagery, functional anatomy, movement exploration, and Franklin Method balls to awaken sensation and explore the deep, dynamic landscape of the pelvis.

You know the Magic Circle. But do you know just how much you can actually *do* with it? ⭕

On Sunday, Sept. 27 at 11am, Midsection Connection is thrilled to welcome Master Teacher Karen H. Carlsonfor a four-hour deep dive into Joe Pilates’ Magic Circle.

With more than 40 years of client-based experience and 30 years training teachers, Karen is truly a teacher of teachers. This workshop will go far beyond the familiar squeeze, exploring the Magic Circle as a tool for resistance, coordination, pelvis-ribcage integration, stabilization, and connecting the arms and legs back to the torso.

Expect exercises standing, seated, supine, and side-lying, plus a whole lot of new ways to think about this deceptively simple piece of Pilates equipment.

Perfect for Pilates and movement practitioners, or anyone ready to seriously level up their Magic Circle knowledge.

Using the Franklin Method, mental imagery, movement, and Franklin Method balls, Shannon will guide you through the inner architecture of the pelvic diaphragm, helping you explore sensation, release habitual tension, and discover subtle strength.

Less “control your pelvic floor.” More sense it, trust it, inhabit it.

Pilates instructors sure do say some weird stuff. 😂

But those cues aren’t just for fun. They’re designed to help you find the anatomical sweet spot where your body can move with more ease, efficiency, and intention.

See you at our Fairmount studio - classes 7 days a week!

The beauty of Pilates is that the work keeps changing. You can make movements bigger, smaller, stronger, more precise, or more connected to your breath. There is always something new to notice.

That's why mat is a staple at Midsection Connection, not a stepping stone.
