As you get older, you quickly learn that it’s not the MIF keeping runners close, it’s the pitcher: through knowing the speed of the runner, timing, and varied looks. As a MIF, your job is to be available and in the correct spot to field your position.

Diamond IQ with the

while being slick with the glove is a plus, being a good target over there with good footwork is a must.

1) on a ball hit to someone in the infield, make sure you square up to your infielder and show them your chest

2) you’re not a statue! So don’t plant your feet on the bag. Identify the flight and direction of the ball, and use the 1-2 step to get your feet and chest in position.

Fat Wrist vs. Skinny Wrist - shout to my guy Tommy Mich, who taught my a lot about pitching as his catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies back in 2002. One of the best way to learn is to see what works best from people who are already good at it. I took what I learned from him and taught kids in my HS team and kids that I’ve coached.
What’s your favorite pitch to throw?
