It is with very heavy hearts that we share the passing of a longtime member of the Pewaukee Golf Club family, Jim Young.
Jim spent an incredible 25 years working at Pewaukee Golf Club, and for as long as I have been here, you could count on Jim being behind the counter every Wednesday.
I lovingly called him “my Doberman.” Jim was always on guard. He had everything accounted for, ran the golf shop with the precision of the CPA he was, and somehow had an eye on just about everyone and everything happening on the golf course. His years of service in the Air Force and his career in accounting never really left him—even well into his 80s. He was sharp, dependable, loyal, and took a tremendous amount of pride in doing things the right way.
But underneath the Doberman exterior was one of the sweetest and funniest people you could know. Jim had a dry sense of humor, a quick comment for just about everything, and he certainly wasn’t afraid to give anyone a hard time. Our Anheuser-Busch rep could count on Jim every Wednesday when he stopped in for our order, inevitably asking him some version of, “Who’s drinking that crap?”
And Jim wasn’t only here when he was working. If it was Tuesday or Thursday, there was a pretty good chance you’d find him on the course playing with two of his friends and fellow PGC coworkers. Pewaukee Golf Club wasn’t simply a place Jim worked for 25 years—it was part of his life, and in return, Jim became part of the fabric of this place.
There are certain people who become such fixtures at a golf course that it’s difficult to imagine it without them. Jim was one of those people.
He will be deeply missed by our staff, his friends, our golfers, our vendors, and the countless people who had the privilege of getting to know him over the years.
Thank you for 25 years of loyalty, laughter, watchful eyes, perfectly accounted-for Wednesdays, and for always keeping us on our toes, Jim.
Rest easy, Jim. We’ve got it from here. ❤️
