TOP 5 ARM CARE MISTAKES 👇DOING THE SAME STALE PROGRAM EVERY TIME YOU PITCHYour body adapts fast. If you’re doing the same exact arm care routine over and over, you’re not building anything new. You’re just maintaining at best. Real development requires progression. Load has to increase, movements have to evolve, and your arm needs new stimulus to keep getting stronger, more mobile, and more resilient. Stale program equals stale results.

THINKING ARM CARE IS JUST BANDSMost guys treat arm care like a quick band routine and call it a day. That’s incomplete. A real arm care system has three pillars: strength, mobility, and recovery. Strength builds capacity. Mobility allows you to move efficiently. Recovery keeps you fresh and consistent. Miss one of those and you’re leaving a massive gap in your development and increasing your injury risk.

NOT ALIGNING YOUR ARM CARE WITH YOUR THROWING WORKLOADYour arm doesn’t need the same thing every day. If it’s a lighter day, we NEED to focus on recovery. If it’s a high output day, you need a full system to support it. Doing the same routine regardless of workload is one of the fastest ways to either burn out or stall out. Your arm care should match your throwing, not ignore it.

ONLY DOING ARM CARE IN SEASON OR OFF SEASONA lot of players treat arm care like it’s optional depending on the time of year. That’s a mistake. If you stop in season, you lose the strength and capacity you built. If you stop in the off season, you never build it in the first place. The best arms stay consistent year round. That’s how durability is built and maintained.

HAVING A GREAT PROGRAM BUT NOT DOING IT CONSISTENTLYThis is the biggest one. You can have the most perfectly designed program in the world, but if you’re not consistent with it, it doesn’t matter. Results come from stacking reps over time. Strength, mobility, and durability are all earned through consistency. No shortcuts, no hacks. Just showing up and doing the work over and over again.GO CRUSH IT👊👊

Full Explanation 👇

In the delivery, both springs for the trunk need to be loaded
1) Extension
2) Rotation

BUT to achieve both of these together, it doubles the mobility requirement of the trunk

To get nerdy for a second:
The extension down glides all of the joints of the Mid Back taking them close to their end range. Now to rotate, you are asking one side of the mid back to down glide even further. NOT EASY

This takes consistent work to improve and even maintain. It is a common combo we see that can slowly and silently stiffen up and lead to a loss of a couple ticks as careers progress

For this exercise:
1) Put your Arm Side leg forward to lock in you pelvis and prevent “Fake Rotation”
2) Add Max Extension
3) Hold the Extension and Rotate fully to your arm side

PS: Every pitcher has an optimal amount of extension and rotation needed for max speed transfer so figure that out yourself and with your Pitching Coach

Perfect For Pitchers 👇

A “Closed Chain” exercise simply means your hand is a fixed point for the exercise.

I love when that fixed point is the ground for these 5 reasons 👇

1) It forces the contraction of your core and trunk muscular

✅ These exercises force the body to stabilize from the core out. No, this should not be the only training for your Core (See Prior Oblique post) but it does teach the body to not let the arm control the body!

2) It creates a high demand for Scap Stability, specifically using the Serratus Anterior

✅ When you are bearing weight through your arm, you must use your Serratus to keep your chest high off the ground and your Scapula flush with your ribcage. The better you can control your Scapula, the more it sets up the shoulder for success!

3) The body weight through the arm can act as a mobilizing force backwards to maintain mobility in the Posterior Capsule

✅ Due to the repetitive deceleration of the throwing arm, some Pitcher’s can slowly develop a tightening of the posterior capsule which can decrease IR, Flexion, and Across Body movements of the shoulder. Now, it would be careless and potentially harmful to do a Posterior Shoulder mobilization on a relaxed and more hypermobile shoulder. Thats why we love the self limiting Beauty of the exercise. The constant co-contraction (covered in the next point) prevents any extreme motion so it is really only going to play a mobilizing role for those very restricted capsules that don’t let the shoulder centralize

4) The weightbearing through the arm causes a co-contraction of the Rotator Cuff to dynamically stabilize the shoulder

✅ This Co-Contraction all around the shoulder joint creates a stabilizing force to centralize the humerus which is the name of the game in shoulder stability.

5) The Balance Factor challenges the neurological system to use the inputs of proprioception and vision to constantly make small adjustments to stay balanced

✅ This tests the body ability to quickly receive input to the brain about the muscle and joint positions, then rapidly make small adjustment to maintain balance. This is more relevant to the single arm exercises and is further challenged when perturbation is added

👇 Stop Rotating Like 💩 Most Pitchers understand the importance of T Spine Rotation in their delivery! It plays a HUGE role in producing velocity as well as protecting the shoulder and keeping it healthy (Too Much Elbow Drag/Horizontal Abduction)Now, It’s time to Nerd out a little 👇T Spine rotation is usually measured in TOTAL RANGE OF MOTION of the 12 vertebrae that are stacked on top of each other (Mid Back)
But, this doesn’t tell the whole story. Many Pitchers have 1 specific hinge point in the T Spine that produces a HUGE amount of their total rotationWhat this leads to:
1- Forces a lot of the stress to be placed on that single joint
2- Lack of Upper T Spine Rotation misses out on the shoulder protective aspect3- The amount of musculature that can participate in the rotation is limited to this small area

To best improve this:
First, do some mobility work on the more stiff segments of the T Spine (Usually Upper Ribs)
We like to block the segments that are already moving a lot to FORCE the stiffer ones to rotate
Then, re integrate rotation accross all segments together!
I went with a little more in depth/advanced concept with this post, so let us know if you like this more than more basic conceptual info and I will do more 👊
