And I thought Saturday was going to be a quiet one!
Saturday, 22 August 2026 - With many of our regular Saturday morning members heading to the lake to fly later in the day, I figured the field might be a little quieter than usual. But I completely forgot about our visiting Civil Air Patrol group!
Before long, the sky was filled with Aeroscouts. Lots and lots of Aeroscouts! At one point, I started thinking the Raptor was going to be dining on Aeroscouts today! Fortunately, that never happened, and we managed to keep everyone’s planes where they belonged.
It was great to see such a large group of young people, along with some older folks, showing an interest in getting into the RC hobby. That’s what makes days like this so special. Seeing new people discover the excitement of flying and hopefully becoming part of our RC family is always a win.
Unfortunately, the day wasn’t without a loss.
As our guests were arriving, I allowed myself to get distracted by the constantly changing wind conditions. On the second flight of the day, I ended up crashing my E-flite V1200.
And that one hurts.
What makes it even harder to swallow is that the flight immediately before the crash was absolutely amazing. The V1200 was flying beautifully, and everything was going exactly right. Then, just one flight later… she was down.
Despite the loss, I already know I’ll eventually be getting another V1200. Some airplanes are just too much fun to leave grounded forever!
So, all in all, it was another great Saturday at the field—lots of pilots, lots of Aeroscouts, plenty of laughs, and unfortunately, one very expensive lesson.
Another great… but costly… Saturday!

Friday, 21 August 2026 - What a morning! While it’s still warm here on the Gulf Coast, the winds stayed at bay for the first couple of hours, giving us a great opportunity to get in a couple of flights.
There was a small but dedicated group out this morning, and that made for some great flying. There was just one exception—the battery in my IX20 transmitter was dead. Fortunately, we were able to get it temporarily fixed and back in action. Sometimes you have to do a little field repair before the flying can continue!
Unfortunately, I did have a little mishap when the crosswinds started picking up. I came in a little hard and a little fast with the Freewing F-35A Lightning II 70mm. Thankfully, it wasn’t anything too serious, but it definitely reminded me that crosswinds can make things interesting in a hurry.
It sure would be nice to upgrade the F-35 to one of the larger, newer models. Speaking of which, we received an email saying the Freewing F-35C was finally in stock. I almost cut the morning short to place an order!
Unfortunately, that excitement didn’t last long. MotionRC later announced on their Facebook group that the email had been sent in error. Oh well… I guess we’ll continue to wait. Painful, but what can you do?
I spent the rest of the morning at the field testing Stop Lock settings in AS3X on the Freewing F-22A Raptor (01) 90mm V2. It was a productive morning of flying, testing, and, of course, a little bit of frustration—but that’s all part of the hobby!
Until next time, keep ’em flying!
