Elvis Presley at 40 — still unmistakably The King.

By 1975, Elvis was no longer the 21-year-old rebel who had shocked America nearly two decades earlier. He was a mature performer with years of fame, triumphs, struggles and unforgettable performances behind him.

And when he walked onto the stage in this striking blue jumpsuit, he still knew how to command attention.

Often known among collectors and fans as the Blue Prehistoric Bird Suit, the outfit featured an elaborate bird-like design across the chest and a matching belt. With Elvis's dark hair against that brilliant blue, it created one of the distinctive looks of his mid-1970s stage years.

His appearance had changed with age — just as everyone's does — but there were things time couldn't take away.

As Lisa Marie grew up at Graceland, Elvis was the father who loved to spoil her, make her laugh, and turn ordinary days into childhood adventures.

Lisa later remembered riding golf carts around Graceland, staying up late, and enjoying freedoms that few children could imagine. She described herself as a “Daddy’s girl” and spoke about the unconditional love she felt from her father.

Whatever pressures Elvis carried outside the gates of Graceland, Lisa knew another side of him — softer, playful and deeply affectionate.

And that is what makes August 16, 1977 so heartbreaking.

Lisa was only nine years old. She later recalled seeing her father during the early morning hours at Graceland. Elvis found her awake, told her to go back to bed, and kissed her goodnight.

There was nothing extraordinary about that moment.

Just a father telling his little girl it was time to sleep.

Lisa couldn't have known that it would become one of her final memories of her daddy.

Hours later, Elvis was gone.

The world lost The King of Rock ’n’ Roll that day.

But a nine-year-old little girl lost her father.

Fans remember the voice.

Today, Elvis impersonators around the world still say it, movies and television shows reference it, and fans can hear those words and instantly picture The King standing onstage.

Maybe that's part of what makes Elvis so unforgettable. Even something as ordinary as saying “thank you” somehow sounded different when it came from him.

The years changed Elvis. They never changed the way we loved him.

As Elvis grew older, especially during the final years of his life, his appearance changed. He was no longer the slim 21-year-old who had burst onto television screens in the 1950s.

But underneath those changes was still the man millions had fallen in love with.

And then he would begin to sing.

That voice could still remind you exactly why Elvis Presley had become so special. There were still moments of incredible power, tenderness and emotion — moments when you could close your eyes and simply hear Elvis.

Maybe that's what true love for an artist looks like.

We didn't love Elvis because he stayed young forever. We loved the voice, the music, the memories, the smile, the generosity fans remember, and the way his songs made us feel.

Elvis changed with time, just as all of us do.

But some things never changed — his voice could still touch our hearts, and our love for him never went away.

Nearly 50 years later, we're still here.
Still listening.
Still remembering.
Still loving Elvis.

Elvis Presley was the most handsome man who ever walked this earth — at least in my eyes.

Those unforgettable blue eyes, the dark hair, that smile, the strong features… but photographs still seem unable to capture everything people saw in him.

There was something about Elvis beyond physical beauty — the charm, the vulnerability, the confidence onstage and that shy, almost boyish smile away from it.

Some men are handsome.

Some become icons.

But Elvis? To millions of fans, he looked like God had taken a little extra time creating him.

A beautiful face, an unforgettable voice and a presence the world still hasn't forgotten.

Elvis deserved the best.

He gave us his voice, his music, his energy and so many unforgettable moments. He spent much of his life trying to make audiences happy, and even decades after his passing, people around the world are still finding comfort and joy in what he left behind.

Elvis wasn't perfect. He was human. But perhaps that's exactly why so many fans still feel protective of him today.

Sometimes you look back at his story and wish he had been given more peace, more rest, more time with the people he loved — and simply more years to enjoy being Elvis the man, not always Elvis the superstar.

After everything he gave us, he deserved happiness too.
