Learning lifesaving skills can be FUN!

We had so much fun teaching Safety Around Water skills to the amazing second graders of Pelham City Schools this week!

From learning essential water safety skills to building confidence in and around the water, these students showed up ready to learn, laugh, and make a splash!

We’re so excited to partner with Pelham City Schools to help equip our community’s children with skills that can last a lifetime at no cost to the students or their families.

🎒✨ Y Little Learners is off to a great start!

We wrapped up our first week of the fall semester and our Little Learners had a blast exploring the branch, getting creative with arts and crafts, meeting new friends, and playing lots of fun games!

It’s the perfect start to a year full of growing, learning, and making memories together. 💙

🏀 "We truly don't think we could have chosen a better place." 💙

For Lauren, the Pelham YMCA was where her son played his very first organized sport — and it turned into an experience the whole family will remember.

"We had the absolute best coach. He was incredibly patient with the kids, encouraging them every step of the way, and did such a great job making basketball fun while also teaching them the basics. You could tell he genuinely cared about the kids and wanted each of them to have a positive experience.

As a parent, it was so special getting to watch my son learn something completely new and have fun doing it."

From the front desk to the stage — Joyce does it all!

We’re excited to celebrate Joyce C., one of our wonderful Pelham YMCA front desk team members, who was recently highlighted for her involvement in the local performing arts!

Joyce has participated in two Pelham BEAT interactive murder mystery dinner productions, appearing as an actor in Hullas and Homicides and most recently serving as stage manager/assistant director for Murder is on the Air. She is also a member of the Seasoned Performers of Red Mountain Theatre!

Joyce may love being in front of the spotlight, but she says she enjoys our Pelham Y members even more! We love seeing our team members share their talents and passions throughout our community.

Building connections. Sharing our impact. Strengthening our community.

Today, we were grateful to welcome State Representative Kenneth Paschal, Mayor Rick Wash, City Council President Chad Leverett, and Pelham Strong President Melissa Leverett to the Pelham YMCA for our Community Tour!

It was a wonderful opportunity to open our doors, share our story, and highlight the many ways the Y is serving City of Pelham, AL and our surrounding communities every day.

From Safety Around Water and Defeat PD to Y Leaders Club, M@M Mujeres Ayudando A Mujeres , Y Little Learners, Child Watch, Kids Night Out, and so much more, our work extends far beyond the walls of our facility. It’s about creating opportunities for people of all ages to learn, grow, connect, and thrive.

Thank you to each of our guests for spending time with us, learning more about our work, asking questions, and engaging in conversations about the needs and opportunities within our community.

Meet Carol S., one of our incredible Group Exercise instructors at the Pelham YMCA! 💙

Carol has been part of the YMCA for an amazing 23 years, and her favorite part of the Y is easy: “The people—100%!!!”

💬 What motivates Carol?
“When people make the effort to show up for my class, I want to give my best to them in return!”
🦈🚴 Fun fact: Carol LOVES sharks and the Tour de France—seriously, just ask her about them!

For Carol, the YMCA mission is about helping people in meaningful ways—whether that’s making someone feel welcome, encouraging them on their health and wellness journey, coaching youth, or giving back to the community. It’s all about supporting others and making a positive difference.

Building safer, more confident swimmers in our community!

We were grateful to celebrate the support of the Shelby County Legislative Delegation for our Safety Around Water program in partnership with Pelham City Schools!

A special thank you to Representatives Kenneth Paschal Kenneth Paschal and Arnold Mooney Arnold Mooney for joining us and supporting this important initiative. Their investment is helping provide Pelham City Schools second-grade students with the opportunity to learn essential water safety skills. 🏊‍♀️💙

Safety Around Water (SAW) is the YMCA’s water safety program designed to help children become more comfortable and confident in and around the water. Through classroom education and time in the pool, students learn important skills such as how to safely enter and exit the water, what to do if they unexpectedly find themselves in the water, and basic swimming and water safety techniques.

We’re proud to work alongside Pelham City Schools and our community partners to give local students access to skills that can help keep them safer for a lifetime.

Thank you for investing in our kids and helping us build a safer, stronger community!
