Central Illinois Shotokan Karate Traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate-Do We teach authentic Japanese karate classes, year-round, in a traditional karate training atmosphere.

Karate is an "empty-hand" weaponless martial art. Students learn defensive techniques such as blocking, punching, and kicking, evasion tactics, and much more. Students also learn some of the Japanese vocabulary and cultural aspects associated with karate. Classes are conducted in a safe and formal manner, stressing the courtesy and mutual respect of true traditional karate classes.

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB KARATE!

Our first session in the fall “Intro to Karate Class” at the Pekin Boys and Girls Club was last night (Tuesday)from 5:45-6:30.
Class meets once a week for 6 weeks!
Directly applicable topics for the kids: Stranger Danger, safety awareness,
Introduction of defensive blocking and other karate techniques are taught!
Black belts Dennis Jurewicz , John Garls, Pamela H**p, Chris Hurst, and other volunteers are instructing!

This mornings Breakfast Club was epic! First hour was all resistance training using our Ripcord bungee cords. Thirty second sets and switching side with reverse punches, jabs, front kicks, hook punches, downward blocks, rising blocks, outside blocks, and inside blocks. Next was SnapBack training both standing (to control balance) and laying down to work our hip flexors, gluts, hamstrings, and quads.
Second hour was the entire syllabus (6 of each technique) up to and including Shodan test. Finally we paired up for some offensive/defensive sparring drills…the length of the gym and back. Then we rotated partners. Many switches and many passes across the gym. Lots of challenging training today! Good job guys!

Sensei Greg Jennings, 4th Dan, with over 40 years in Shotokan Karate and other martial arts, this month published his book trilogy!
