Spring football is coming to Centreville Bank Stadium.

PAWTUCKET, RI — Rhode Island is getting its own professional football team! The United Football League (UFL) announced Wednesday morning that Pawtucket will become home to a new franchise beginning in the spring of 2027.

The team will play its home games at Centreville Bank Stadium, with its inaugural home game scheduled for Friday, April 2, 2027, at 8 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on FOX.
The team’s name, colors, logo and official branding will be revealed during a public celebration at Centreville Bank Stadium on October 18. Fans will also have the opportunity to place deposits for season tickets at the event.

Rhode Island is one of four new markets joining the UFL over the next two seasons. Colorado will also join in 2027, followed by Utah and Oklahoma in 2028, bringing the league to 10 teams.

Rhode Island has a rich history of professional football dating back more than a century. The Providence Steam Roller, founded in 1916, joined the NFL in 1925 and won the league championship in 1928, becoming the first New England team to capture an NFL title. The team played its final NFL season in 1931. Decades later, the New England Steamrollers brought professional arena football to the Providence Civic Center in 1988, playing just one season before folding. 

Centreville Bank Stadium, which opened in 2025, is already home to Rhode Island FC and has hosted college football, rugby and lacrosse. The addition of professional spring football marks another milestone for the Pawtucket venue.

With Rhode Island FC already calling the stadium home and professional football returning to the Ocean State nearly four decades after the New England Steamrollers’ final season, Pawtucket continues to expand its professional sports presence.
