My First Jiu Jitsu Analysis aka a JJ Video Essay
Title: Is this the best Takedown under Adcc Ruleset?
With ADCC World Championship coming up and ADCC Opens growing in popularity, it’s important to understand the tactics and trends of this unique ruleset. Unlike other jiu jitsu tournaments, pulling guard is allowed without penalty in the first half of the match, but results in negative points in the second half and immediately in Finals matches. The only exception is chaining a guard pull with a genuine 3-second takedown attempt. This ruleset favors wrestlers/judokas over guard pullers, which makes working on takedowns essential for any ADCC competitor.
Scoring a takedown is difficult: you must hold your opponent on their butt or back for a full 3 seconds to earn 2 points. That’s why competitors drill turtle transitions and turtle defense.
So, is there a takedown that helps you secure those points? My answer is: the Arm Drag to the Inside Trip (Ko Uchi Gari). It lands you on your opponent’s hips and torso, giving you control and making it harder for them to turtle. If you’re working on takedowns for ADCC, this one has proven itself across past tournaments.
