World Yoshukai Karate Oakland Terrace Dojo World Yoshukai Karate is a Japanese form of karate that was founded in 1963. Our dojo caters to stud Our dojo caters to students from about 8 to 80 years young.

World Yoshukai Karate is a Japanese form of karate that was founded in 1963 that has been in Bay County since 1984. We are part of the World Yoshukai Karate Kobudo Organization, which has dojos all over the world. The instructors are myself, Robert Girvin (3rd Degree Black Belt), my son, Bruce Girvin (2nd Degree Black Belt) and Bill Warner (2nd Degree Black Belt). We also have 1st Degree Black Belts Gina Hall and Cameron Pinkus who also assist with instructing the students. We hold our classes in the Oakland Terrace Recreation Center so that we are able to provide a world renowned martial art at a lower price, since we do not have a large over-head cost.

Hey Everyone! On September 12th we had our annual Open Karate Tournament in Panama City. We had two new students who had recently started with us and they had never been in a tournament before. They decided to go out there and do their best. We are super proud of them.

I would like to give a big "Thank You" to all who came out and competed. Also, to all of the volunteers who gave of their time. We couldn't do this without y'all. Also, Thank You to all of the Black Belts who are there all day and busy judging and doing whatever they can to help the tournament run smoothly. I hope to see everyone again next year! Also, don't forget we have the tournament in Dothan coming up in November. OSU!

Hey Everyone! So this Saturday is the tournament! Come join us for a great day of competition and fellowship with other karate-ka. If you need an idea for something to do afterwards with the kids or grandkids, I have one. There is a local family-owned business called Zoo World. I was there this past week with my son and granddaughter. The staff is friendly and they do offer military discounts. I can remember visiting them when I was a kid. See you Saturday! OSU!

It will be in the same place as last year, Jinks Middle School. Come join us for another year of good competition and fun with your fellow karate-ka. This past Saturday, we had a Black/Brown Belt workout in Oxford, Alabama with the two Directors of World Yoshukai and instructors from other dojos. Before the actual workout began, five of our own students received their Shodan (1st degree) Black Belts. We are so proud of these Karate-ka, they have worked hard the past several years. We know that they will represent World Yoshukai very well. Not only are they proficient with the physical aspect, but they practice the mental aspect of what it means to be a martial artist and Black Belt. Congratulations Everyone of you! OSU! 🥋

Last night we had a Fight Night. Everyone had a great time. There were several new karate-ka, they were understandably nervous, but there were smiles all around afterwards. We did both point sparring and full contact.
