Boundaries are a core concept in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — though they may not always be referred to using this exact term .

For example : The idea of setting and maintaining healthy boundaries is deeply embedded in the Interpersonal Effectiveness module of DBT.

Interpersonal Effectiveness
This DBT module is directly focused on helping individuals:

Ask for what they need

Say no clearly and respectfully

Maintain self-respect in relationships

Key DBT Interpersonal Effectiveness sSkills related to boundaries:

DEAR MAN – a strategy for assertively expressing needs or setting limits.

GIVE – used to maintain relationships while communicating effectively.

FAST – helps preserve self-respect when interacting with others.

These skills all help establish, communicate, and defend boundaries in a way that is mindful, effective, and respectfully.

Below are some examples of boundary setting sentences.

SIGNS OF… AuDHD

AuDHD isn’t simply an ADHD side and an autism side sitting neatly alongside each other.

The characteristics can interact, overlap and sometimes pull a child in completely competing directions.

Craving novelty… but needing predictability.
Seeking stimulation… but becoming overloaded by it.
Acting impulsively… but needing time to process.
Hyperfocusing… yet finding it incredibly difficult to switch attention.

It is this push and pull that can make an AuDHD child’s presentation feel so complex — and why understanding the whole child matters.

Signs of AuDHD are explored in A Bitesize Guide to AuDHD.

SECOND CHANCE SUNDAY

Big feelings are not a sign that a child is being “naughty”, “dramatic” or “attention seeking.”

Emotional regulation is a developmental skill that takes years to build. Children are not born knowing how to calm themselves, manage frustration or cope with disappointment. They learn these skills through repeated experiences of being supported by calm, connected adults.

Today’s visual explains what emotional regulation really is, why some children find it more difficult than others, and how the right support can make a lifelong difference.

OCD usually begins in the teen or young adult years, but it can start in childhood. Symptoms usually begin over time and tend to vary in how serious they are throughout life. The types of obsessions and compulsions you have also can change over time. Symptoms generally get worse when you are under greater stress, including times of transition and change. OCD, usually thought to be a lifelong disorder, can have mild to moderate symptoms or be so severe and time-consuming that it becomes disabling.

There's a difference between being a perfectionist — someone who needs flawless results or performance — and having OCD. OCD thoughts aren't simply excessive worries about real issues in your life or liking to have things clean or arranged in a specific way.

If your obsessions and compulsions affect your quality of life, see your doctor or mental health professional. (Mayo Clinic ❤️)
