Braxton Berrios has now been elevated from the New York Giants practice squad for Week 1 against Dallas. Earlier today this was only expected/reported; multiple reports now say the Giants have made the elevation, putting Berrios on the game-day roster for Sunday night.

That pairs with today's permanent promotion of Dalen Cambre to the 53-man roster. So the Giants have added two WR/special-teams options immediately before the opener while Malik Nabers remains questionable. Berrios' role is expected to center on punt/kick returns with reserve-receiver snaps available if needed.

The Giants have released veteran WR Darius Slayton from the 53-man roster today, September 7. Slayton had initially survived final cuts and was listed among the team's five receivers, so his release now opens a spot on the active 53-man roster.

This is particularly interesting for Braxton Berrios. Berrios remains on the practice squad at the moment, but the Giants now have an open active-roster spot and one fewer receiver. That makes a Berrios promotion/elevation something worth watching closely, especially given his expected role in the return game.

The New York Giants are now reported to have 13 players on the practice squad:

Braxton Berrios, Jalin Hyatt, Jake Haener, Dalen Cambre, Grant Finley, Raheem Layne, Josh Tupou, JT Woods, Chandler Martin, Trace Ford, Ryan Scherneke, Ben Barten and Jarrod Gray (international player). That leaves roughly four available spots, counting the international exemption.

Berrios was on the field with the Giants Monday and is expected to be elevated for Week 1 against Dallas, where he should handle punt returns following Calvin Austin III's season-ending ACL injury.

One other notable roster point: despite holding the No. 5 waiver priority, the Giants made no waiver claims.
