Oswego Speedway Welcome to the Facebook home of Oswego Speedway, a 5/8 mile semi-banked pavement racing oval & Home of the Supermodifieds
(2421)

The Oswego Speedway, located in Oswego, NY, was built in 1951 when original owners Harry, George, and William Caruso converted the one time Wine Creek Horse Track into a 3/8 mile dirt auto racing facility. The track was paved during 1952 and remained a 3/8 mile track until 1961 when it was enlarged to its current 5/8 mile size. The Oswego Speedway has been a continuously run weekly race track since it opened in August of 1951. The Speedway has undergone vast capital improvements over the course of its 60 plus years of existence and updates are constantly being made to keep it a state-of-the-art racing facility. In 2011, the Speedway's spacious VIP suites were all beautifully updated, a new digital scoring tower was erected, and fresh paint was added as far as the eye could see. Not to mention, several sections of the Gary Witter Memorial Rear Grandstand were reconstructed. In racing circles Oswego Speedway is mentioned as the "Indy of the East" as no fewer than a dozen past and present competitors have competed at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway including two-time Indy 500 champion Gordon Johncock, along with former Budwesier International Classic Champions Bentley Warren, Joe Gosek, and Davey Hamilton. The unique configuration of sweeping turns and a wide racing surface make two and three abreast racing a common sight at Oswego Speedway. Steel walls surround the outside and inside of the racing surface making "The Steel Palace" a truly one of a kind facility. The infield area of the Speedway is almost completely paved for competitors. Steel grandstands line both the front and rear of the track with complete seating capacity in excess of 15,000 people. Most of the front grandstands are covered by a roof and protected by a safety screen. The third and fourth turns of the original 3/8 mile track were re-paved in 2004 and now gives the track two unique configurations to host a variety of different racecars. Oswego Speedway's events are scheduled on Saturday nights from May to September with most starting times at 6:30pm. Special events and races at the beginning or end of the season may start earlier. The Budwesier International Classic 200 is held on Sunday of Labor Day Weekend and culminates a week-long celebration of racing and other track activities.

6️⃣ SIX CLASSIC WINS.

Otto Sitterly’s victory in Sunday’s 70th Budweiser International Classic 200 put him alongside Nolan Swift, Bentley Warren and Greg Furlong as the only drivers in Oswego Speedway history with SIX Classic victories.

Swift reached six in 1972, Warren in 1998 and Furlong in 2007. It had been 19 years since a driver joined that exclusive group.

And there are plenty of SIX connections surrounding Otto’s historic victory.

Bentley Warren went eight years between his fifth and sixth Classic wins – 1990 to 1998. Otto did exactly the same, winning his fifth in 2018 before finally capturing No. 6 in 2026.

Warren’s sixth Classic victory came on September 6, 1998. Otto’s sixth came on September 6, 2026 – the same date on which he won his first Classic in 2009.

There’s another connection in this 2007 podium photo. Otto’s first-ever Classic podium came with a second-place finish in 2007, the day Greg Furlong won his record-tying sixth Classic. Otto can be seen pictured over Furlong’s shoulder that day.

Now, 19 years later, Sitterly has SIX Classic wins of his own.

So, what comes next?

Will Otto return in the No. 7 and chase Classic win No. 7 to become the winningest driver in Classic history?

That remains to be seen.

“It means a ton. Over the last several years I’ve gotten to be buddies with Bentley. I met Swifty years ago, but those guys built this place and it’s still their place.

And then another guy I never dismiss at all who helped me when I got started racing – from Pat Furlong Sr., Pat Jr., Greg – they were all really good to me when I got started. I looked up to him and they were a great group. I wish we could still be going together, because I’m going to tell him flat out when I see him I’d be kicking his ass no problem.

It’s really good to win like that and see 99% of the fans standing up and cheering. It’s great. Even the guys with the middle finger, they are welcome to come over and have a b**r with us. I’ll sign their shirt. It’s all good. This is wonderful.

I have a lot of sponsors I’d like to thank – Corr/Pak Merchandising, FLiP Electronics, Bob Hoefer at Lighthouse Lanes, Five Brothers Produce, Onyx Hose & Tube, Peaceful Living Home Sales, Hawk Fabrication, Level Performance for a great engine, and also our loyalty is with Jimmy D. He did a wonderful job for us many years and I’m sure he’ll be along the pike here with Nicotra Racing again. He helped us tune on our engine today to work on the fuel mileage, so there’s something to be said for a guy that will do that.”
