Day 2 of our Summer Dance Intensive 🩰💖. Enjoying every moment with Ms. Julie Wittenberg Julie Wittenberg and co-founder Mr. Jeremiah Garner. The dancers are having a wonderful time and doing great 👍.

Some footage of a few of our advanced dancers on the first day of our Summer Dance Intensive with the fabulous Ms. Zhanna Dubrovskaya 🩰💖. We had a wonderful first day and look forward to the rest of the week with our intermediate and advanced dancers ✨

One of the lessons from our Artist Hour today was this:

Technique is only one part of becoming an artist. Every pliĂŠ, every rehearsal, every performance exists within a centuries-long conversation about beauty, expression, discipline, and humanity. Understanding that larger context helps our dancers approach their training with greater purpose and intention.

This lesson isn't really about dance history. It's about belonging. We aim to have our students leave feeling that they are heirs to a living artistic tradition.

Summer isn't a break from training—it's an important part of it. 🩰

One question we often hear is, "Does my dancer really need to attend a summer intensive?"

Our answer is simple: yes.

Dance is unlike many other activities. Technique is built through consistency, repetition, and thoughtful progression. Taking several months away from focused training can make it difficult for dancers to maintain the strength, flexibility, coordination, and technical precision they worked so hard to develop throughout the year.

While many dancers travel away for summer intensives—and we wholeheartedly encourage those opportunities when they are the right fit—we also recognize that not every family is able to travel or commit to a residential program. That is exactly why we have developed the Ormond Ballet Summer Intensive.

Our goal is to provide our dancers with the same commitment to excellence they experience throughout the year while introducing them to new faculty, fresh perspectives, and an immersive training environment that supports continued growth. Summer training helps dancers return in the fall stronger, more confident, and better prepared for the next level of their development.

At Ormond Ballet, our Summer Intensive isn't simply about taking more classes. It's about refining technique, developing artistry, expanding creativity, learning from distinguished guest artists, and continuing the disciplined training that allows dancers to reach their fullest potential.

Whether your dancer dreams of a professional career or simply wants to become the very best version of themselves, consistent summer training is one of the greatest investments they can make in their dance education.

The program opens with the luminous “Kingdom of the Shades” from La Bayadère—one of classical ballet’s most iconic and demanding scenes. Known for its hypnotic precision and ethereal beauty, this act showcases the corps de ballet in a breathtaking display of unity, control, and purity of line.

In vibrant contrast, the gala features the spirited “Jardin Animé” from Le Corsaire. This celebratory garden scene bursts with color, musicality, and virtuosity, offering audiences a joyful expression of classical bravura and refined elegance.

Completing the evening is Dyad 1909, an original contemporary work by Jeremiah Garner. This evocative piece explores duality, tension, and connection through a modern movement language that challenges and expands the boundaries of classical training.

Together, these works form a compelling program that bridges tradition and innovation—highlighting the versatility, discipline, and artistry of Ormond Ballet’s dancers.
