Well... this just came outta me in response to a simple, well~meaning compliment.
I may need counseling.....But... it's possible that I nailed it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Matthew Twilley Yessir~! These were NOT current PDGA Touring level courses. But I believe ChP & GG played well for the younger~oldsters and MP (& maybe LH) played well~ish for the elder~olders. Consider that Masters Point itself was less than a month old.
I went into the HOSpital for 13 days, starting less than 30 days from the start of the 2026 Tim Selinske U.S. Masters dg event. Due to an angry park patron with minimal dog manners complaining to the County... = delay.
The Lake County Disc Golf Club came through like true Champions and...not only completed Masters Pointe for elder~older play, but magically got it to look as if it already had a few months of play on it...While, I could only peek in, via posts, from my HOSpital bed.
AND then the LCDGC ran a smooth event (weather notwithstanding)
AND MASSIVE GRACIASOOOOOs to our surrounding clubs that pitched in to 'man~a~post'.
After all of these years, just trying to concentrate on getting good courses into the ground, it is incredibly gratifying to see my bretheren disc huckers forming into clubs on these venues, and now working with other clubs, some from other courses I designed, and watching them work with each other to pull this off......
This elder~older is impressed & proud.
I wasn't the only old fart with 50+ years in disc golf at that event.
But I AM the only guy to have played 400 courses, when there were only 450.
I have a theory. Wanna hear it? Of course not. Here goes...
I won MPO in 1987... in the 1st PDGAW playoff, after regular play and won by hitting 2 redonkulous 40'rs.
I was THAT good... then.
Could I have won a current PDGA Pro Tour event in my prime?... Oh Fwooook no.
Our top speed disc MAY have been a 3 speed. Mostly Aviars, Classic Rocs & XDs. Many still played with an Aero.
The discs got faster. The courses got bigger....
As I aged, and discs got better, I believe I continued to improve as a player into my 40s, than I was when when I took the big one down.
I got better equipment and I learned how to use it. I reveled in trick shots and accuracy.
But, 87% of all those that ask for disc golf lessons JUST want to learn to throw far...and little else.
If I'm being fair (what are the odds?) I'm likely one of the LEAST qualified to show you how to throw FAR. But, lemmeno if you want to learn how to learn how to play the REST of the game.
My point, and I may have one, is... the game... at the TOP level is really fun to WATCH.
But the rest of disc golf need places to play that keep it fun, fair & (somewhat) safe for people of mediocre to VERY good skill sets. A versatile track where people can build their games by progressing through the tee & pin options.
Is 'FunPossible' a werd? THAT's what I'm shooting for in a course design for the REST of us.
I hope this clears up this matter, in which you've shown zero interest.
Sorry you had to read that. I was afraid no~one would be bored enough to get this far.............
Oh... and another thing.... Thanks for the compliment. Given this response, I'm certain it'll never happen again.
G~Ho1602."
