A Farewell Message from Bills Santa
As I Hang Up the Suit for Another Year
Bills Mafia,
As I gently fold away the wing sauce stained red suit and place the boots back on the shelf, my heart is full of gratitude and warmth. Each year, wearing the Bills Santa suit allows me to experience the true magic of the late season run.
The holidays remind us that kindness is timeless, generosity is boundless, and joy is found in the smallest acts of love. As a fan community, we not only represent the “Bills Mafia” we are the spirit of the team. Just like the real Santa, sometimes we get cynical and don’t Billieve, and this season has tested us more than any in this remarkable era in Bills history.
Though the suit may rest until next December, that team spirit is with us every day. We may not be throwing the passes, or making tackles, but our collective energy and appreciation what makes us the greatest fanbase in the NFL. (And we also create tons of jobs for banquet table manufacturers).
My journey as Bills Santa started out as a fun way to garner a little attention, but I have come to realize that Santa is not a religious figure, he represents a belief in something that makes no sense, and hope when all hope is lost.
But you don’t need a beard or a big red hat to be a Santa. Every time you share a kind word, lend a helping hand, or offer a genuine smile, you’re keeping the spirit of Santa alive in our world. We are all his “helpers.”
And as Bills fans, sure, we can complain about our third down defense, or lack of a true number one receiver, but when it has counted, the team has found a way to win. And when they lose, they do it with class and humility. This really is a special team that plays with a lot of heart, and Billief in each other.
Holiday season is over, but playoff season is on the horizon, and is there any other place you would rather be?
So, until we meet again next holiday season in our new stadium, let’s keep the magic burning bright. Thank you for letting me be a part of your celebrations and for reminding me, year after year, that the true heart of the season beats within us all.
