Todd Smith Fitness My Name is Todd Smith and I am a health and fitness writer and speaker, a personal trainer and a world-class natural body builder.

For nearly 30 years, I have been passionately pursuing the best, safest and most efficient ways to transform the human body–my own body and my clients’ bodies. Everything I do is about delivering results to my customers. Before I continue on about myself and what I have been doing for the last 30 years, I have to ask you some questions: What are your goals? How do you want to look? How do you want

A workout doesn’t have to leave you struggling to walk for it to be effective.

Muscle soreness typically means your body experienced a new or unfamiliar stress—not necessarily that you had a better workout.

Instead of judging your training by how much it hurts, track what actually demonstrates progress:

- More reps
- Better form
- More weight
- Better recovery

The goal isn’t to destroy your body every workout. It’s to consistently give it a reason to adapt.

Save this for the next time you think you didn’t do enough just because you aren’t sore.

There’s a difference between completing an exercise and actually training the movement.

You can perform 15 rows just to check the box—or you can slow down, bring your full attention to the pattern, and make sure the right muscles are doing the work.

That mind-muscle connection doesn’t always happen immediately. It might take a week. It might take six months. But when the movement finally clicks, the results extend far beyond the gym.

Suddenly, you can swing a golf club more freely. Walk 18 holes without pain. Do the activities you love with greater confidence.

The magic isn’t simply doing the exercise.

It’s learning to do it with intention.

And yes—incline walking is still one of the best ways to warm up. Just don’t hold on.

42 years ago today, Todd Smith Fitness opened its doors with one belief: the people who need thoughtful coaching most deserve more than a one-size-fits-all workout.
Since September 1, 1984, the equipment has changed. The fitness industry has definitely changed. But our reason for being here hasn’t.

We’re still here to meet people where they are. To coach every rep with purpose. To build strength without beating up the body. And to help people live healthier, stronger and more capable lives for the long haul.

But 42 years isn’t really a celebration of a building or a business.

It’s a celebration of people.

Every client who trusted us. Every member who kept showing up—some for 20 or even 30 years. Every trainer who carried the standard forward. Every laugh between sets, every comeback and every moment someone realized they were stronger than they thought.

You built this place with us.

We’re incredibly grateful to the Omaha community and every person who has made Todd Smith Fitness part of their story.

42 years strong—and still doing what we came here to do: helping people discover the strongest version of themselves.

If TSF has been part of your life, share your favorite memory with us below.

Calories matter—but food selection determines how sustainable those calories feel.

A serving of potatoes and a handful of Goldfish might fit into the same calorie target, but they likely won’t leave you feeling equally satisfied.

That’s why long-term nutrition can’t be reduced to numbers alone. We also need to consider:

- The foods you’re choosing
- How satisfied those foods leave you
- Whether you’re eating balanced meals
- How your choices affect hunger later in the day

Chronically undereating all day often leads to overwhelming hunger at night. Three satisfying meals may serve you far better than spending the day trying to eat as little as possible.

Don’t just ask, “How many calories did I eat?”

Ask, “Are my food choices helping me stay consistent?”

If you've tried everything and your body still won't change, hear this: your body is not broken.

So many women think something's wrong with them because the diet, the endless cardio, and the high-intensity workouts never stuck. But it's not you — the approach was wrong. Most of those programs were built for someone else: a 20-year-old, an athlete, a man. Of course they didn't fit.
What you actually need is strength training built around you — your starting point, your life, your body. That's what we customize here, every day.

Your body isn't broken; you just haven't been coached the right way. Let's fix that: https://www.toddsmithfitness.com/

Do you know what being coached actually looks like?

It’s not a workout handed to you and left to run itself. It’s someone in your corner — pushing your limits while watching your form and protecting your health, every single rep.
That’s Coach Richie here, doing what happens in every session at TSF: cueing the movement in real time, adjusting to the body in front of him, building you up without beating up your joints.
This is the part an app or a program can’t give you. It’s the whole reason we do what we do — and it’s what 41 years of coaching looks like, one rep at a time.

Your feed is full of ice baths, infrared saunas, 5 a.m. alarms, and elaborate morning routines.

I get it — it looks cool. But let me keep it real: you can wake up at 5 a.m. if you want to, but it's not what you actually need.
What you need is a routine you can execute — about three hours a week of strength training, built around your life, not built for the camera. So let's get off the social-media aesthetic and start gaining some real muscle.

Not all muscle is built the same.

The muscle we build here is the kind that keeps you strong for the rest of your life — young enough to play with your kids, strong enough to carry the groceries without a second thought. And the how matters: perfect control, lengthening and shortening every rep, building the body safely. We're not beating up your joints — we're making them stronger.

If that's the kind of strength you want, come train with us: https://www.toddsmithfitness.com/

Before you add intensity, ask one question: have you built the base?

Most women over 40 are doing cardio backwards — chasing intensity with no foundation under it. Think of fitness as a pyramid: it can only be as tall as its base is wide. That base is zone 2 cardio, and it builds your aerobic fitness, endurance, recovery, and your body's ability to use fat for fuel.
Jump straight to high-intensity and you just add fatigue and skip the foundation.

Build the base first — so when you're ready to train harder, your body can actually benefit. Train smarter, not harder. https://www.toddsmithfitness.com/

It won’t go viral, but it works.

This is what long-term health actually looks like:
Wake up early. Go for a walk. Get some sunlight. Lift weights. Cook at home. Go easy on the drinks. Love your family. Protect your energy. Get to bed early.
None of it is exciting. None of it will impress anyone or blow up online. But it works — it always has.
Health is built in the repetition. Day after day after day. The basics never stop working, and consistency builds a life. Simple choices, real results.

That’s the whole thing we’ve believed for 41 years.
