Jiu-Jitsu can often feel like thousands of disconnected techniques. We prefer to start with the objectives.

Get on top. Pass. Pin. Submit.

Understanding the objective helps students identify where they’re getting stuck, then find techniques that actually solve the problem.

Simple frameworks lead to deeper understanding.
More intentional training leads to better outcomes.

We break down the Four Stages of Jiu-Jitsu in this month’s newsletter.

Good gear won’t improve your guard… but it certainly doesn’t hurt.

Our new No Gi kits have officially landed. We still have a limited number of rashguards, shorts, and spats available in youth and adult sizes.

Grab yours before they’re gone!

We’d like to celebrate LŌKAHI’s newest Grey Belt, Amir Alisherzoda!

Amir’s journey to 🔘 Belt is a story of persistence and a testament to his resilient nature. After joining us nearly a year ago with no grappling experience, Amir jumped in headfirst. He quickly became a familiar face in our youth classes and developed a reputation for finding his way to an opponent’s back.

But the road wasn’t always easy.

At his first tournament last spring, Amir was bumped up two weight classes. For a six-year-old, the size difference was significant, and he finished the day 0-4.

But Amir didn’t give up.

He trained harder, stayed after class for extra rounds, and kept a positive attitude while preparing for his next opportunity. Last weekend at the FUJI BJJ Championships in Kansas City, all of that hard work paid off. In a complete turnaround, Amir earned double gold medals and ended the tournament with a perfect 8-0 record.

Amir’s story is a reminder that hard work, perseverance, and the right attitude can change the outcome. Our past experiences don’t have to define us, and Amir is a wonderful example of that.

Congratulations, Amir! We couldn’t be more proud of you.

Crucible (n): “A place or situation in which people are tested thoroughly.”

This weekend, our team came together for the first LŌKAHI Crucible. Through tough positions and hard rounds, we watched our teammates push, support, and celebrate the promotions of their fellow Collective members.

Some people want to sit on a beach. Others want to stare at the mountains. But for a bunch of mat-addicts, THIS is our happy place. Doors open with a gentle breeze blowing through, the sun streaming in through the windows, and the smell of clean mats and a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Oooooh yeah.

PS - Hoping everyone’s doing okay from this weekend’s storm system and wishing everyone a great start to your week 🙏🏻

May’s blog features our stand-out competitors at last month’s Nebraska Jiu-Jitsu tournament, photos from our Youth promotion celebration, and an invitation from Dr. Jarrell Garcia to participate in a unique and innovative study on the psychological impact of injuries suffered by Jiu-jitsu practitioners.

Wishing everyone a happy aloha Friday 🤙🏼

We believe that kids want to do things that challenge their minds and their bodies. It always impresses us how capable our young athletes truly are. And when you mix bright minds with a supportive environment, there’s no telling how high we can go.

Our Youth Jiu-Jitsu program is more than (just) organized chaos… it’s a lot of fun.
