Safety Tip Tuesday!
Today, August 25, marks the start of Nebraska Drug Overdose and Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Week. As we work to stop overdoses in Nebraska and all over the country, we want to highlight the importance of Narcan (naloxone) and how to recognize an overdose.
To help spread awareness, the first 5 people who like, comment, and share this post will receive an Overdose Response Kit that includes Narcan, gloves, and a pocket mask!
Using Narcan is simple. All you have to do is insert the nozzle into the nostril and push up on the plunger. Narcan typically works extremely quickly. However, in some cases, multiple doses are required. If there is no change in responsiveness or breathing after 2-3 minutes, give another dose.
The signs and symptoms of an overdose include:
- Abnormal breaths or loss of breathing
- Irregular, faint, or no pulse
- Pinpoint pupils
- Loss of conciousness/sluggish response
- No reaction to painful stimulus
