To those interested, I'll be reaching out about summer sessions in the next few days. If you've reached out already, I apologize for my slow response... the end of track season is always crazy, this one's been downright bananas. Thanks for your patience! ⚡

COTHERN IS #1 IN ALL PURPOSE YARDS
Quarterback Gavyn Cothern of the Olney (Richland County) Tigers leads the State in all purpose yardage accumulated through four games played, as well as average total yards per game.

Cothern has rushed for 739 yards while passing for 568 yards for net yardage of 1,307 yards, which is an average of over 326 yards a game. That puts him 17 yards in front of Callahan Roper in the category of all purpose yards (passing and rushing combined).
Congratulations, Gavyn!

When the OCC baseball staff asked me to work with their guys this fall, they told me they made it a point to recruit athletes... it's been apparent from the start. Tonight they had 15 guys on their roster broad jump 9 feet or further. 👀

Athletes and coaches were told last week, but wanted to send out one more reminder: No Get Quick this week! It was a great June… see everyone July 8th!

Not sure I’ve ever seen a kid jump like Gavyn Cothern was yesterday… including him.

My 6th grade crew. Every one of them ran their fastest time ever today. ⚡️

State Champ Gavyn Cothern took the show to Texas A&M for USATF Nationals today, and, as he always seems to do, took it to another level on the biggest stage.

While he didn't top his previous best of 6.99m, his jumps of 6.88, 6.83, and 6.77 are the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best jumps he's ever turned in. His best jump (roughly 22'7) was good for 16th out of 70 jumpers from all over the country.

All this was not an easy thing to do in July and on that stage - he's currently in the thick of pre-season for football and training for Long Jump has rightfully taken a back seat. In other words, the state of Illinois better look out... the Champ has gotten even better. ⚡
