Fiend Field Report #027 is live.
This week we’re talking about the weird team sport that happens inside an individual workout.
Your score is yours. Your reps are yours. But the push, the jokes, the suffering, and the fist bumps belong to the room.
Be sure to checkout Coach Jacob breaking down the week of Workouts programmed by Coach Mike to see what's coming this week.

The coaching starts long before the clock does.
In the winter, Mike has opened the doors before 5AM while most of Oklahoma City is still asleep. Great coaches have already studied the workout, written the lesson plan, thought through progressions, scaling, and how to teach it better.
And they keep studying. Good coaches never get to decide they know enough.
That’s part of what CrossFit has always been: knowledge shared from coach to coach, then used to help the person standing in front of them.
Over time, that person becomes someone they know. They know when to push, when to adjust, what you’ve been working on, and what a win looks like for you that day.
Coaches take that relationship seriously.
You may only see the hour.
They’ve been thinking about how to coach it well long before you walked through the door.

CrossFit makes perfect sense until you try to explain it to someone who doesn’t do CrossFit.
Yes, the workout is written on a whiteboard.
Yes, grown adults voluntarily pick up heavy things, put them down, then pick them up again.
Yes, the whole room might cheer loudest for the last person still working.
And yes, about five minutes after saying, “That was awful,” somebody will ask what tomorrow’s workout is.
We’re a different little bunch.
But hard work, good coaching, and people who are genuinely happy to see you walk through the door isn’t a bad way to spend an hour.
Apparently this is what we do for fun now.
