Region 12 Classic Egyptian Championships

Ten years ago, twenty horses came to Perry, Georgia.

That was the first Classic Egyptian Championship — 2016. Twenty horses, one ring, and a group of us who genuinely did not know whether there would be a second year.

This spring we had more than sixty entries.

I've spent a lot of time trying to understand why it grew, because it wasn't a marketing plan. I think it comes down to something pretty simple.

People don't come to this show only to win. They come because they love their horse — really love it — and they still want to be competitive. They want to breed the best they possibly can, and they want to stand next to other Egyptian breeders who understand exactly what that costs and exactly what it's worth.

Everything else grew around that. The cash prizes. The competition. Judges of international standing. A full day where nobody's in a hurry to leave.
