This week!! Join us! ✨

6:45 PM American Cha Cha (all levels) with Emily

7:45 American Rhumba (all levels) with Emily

Emily has been teaching Latin, Ballroom, Smooth and Rhythm dance styles for nearly 20 years, and still delights in teaching even the simplest steps. Endlessly fascinated by how the human body moves, how people can connect to one another through movement, and the learning process as a whole, she aims to help her students feel comfortable and confident on the dance floor, and able to find humor in their mistakes.

Over the course of her career Emily has held national and international titles in several dance styles within the same-sex competitive dance community, and is currently a Women’s Standard World Champion, along with her spectacular dance partner, Citabria Phillips.

No partner necessary, we will rotate in class! Come early to stretch and mingle with your fellow classmates.

We are located on the 1st floor of 200 Grand Ave in the lounge.

Register ahead online for these classes or walk on in! Link is in the description.

What a dance class! Last week we kicked off the 6:45 class by learning east coast swing basics: the hold, timing & footwork, and an underarm turn. We then learned The Charleston and practiced doing it solo and together. Then from the ECS basic into The Charleston and back to ECS basic.

In the 7:45 class we did a jazz warm-up with about a dozen cutely named moves. We introduced the 8-count timing of the basic Lindy move, then worked on the “swing out” and “circle” (back into closed position). We practiced going from The Charleston to Swing Out to Circle and back into The Charleston.

This week we’ll have a quick review and learn some more!

Upcoming:
East Coast Swing, Lindy, and Charleston this week!

We can't thank you all enough for coming to The April Affair--whether you were performing or cheering, judging, or volunteering--even if you were only there in spirit!

We enjoyed basking in raucous and supportive community as we watched a variety of dancers give it their all. We loved dancing with one another during the breaks and perusing the fun displays in the hallway. Many of us reconnected with friends we hadn't seen in a long time.

Here are just a few photos. Please see our website for many more: https://www.oaklandqueerdance.com/the-april-affair
