This week, we met for our first class in the New to Yoga: Intro Series.
Yoga history, an introduction to the philosophy behind why we practice, and a step by step breakdown of the Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) A & B sequences is just some of the ground we covered.
A few of the bigger takeaways:
✨that the philosophy behind the practice is about liberation from suffering and connection to true nature
✨how these moving sequences really come down simply to moving the spine between extension & flexion and how the postures unfold from there
✨how steadiness & ease are two key factors and that it all comes back to 3 foundations: breath, body, & mind
It was personally refreshing to feel totally in the spirit of curiosity, a little silliness, and human connection. Grateful to the souls who took this first step with me into the world of yoga and sending all the encouragement out into the ether towards you so that you are inspired to continue to practice what you learned until we meet again next week.
Right when I got home after the Wednesday evening class, I picked some weeds outside my home, made a small bouquet, reflected on our session and began preparing our updated lesson plan for next week based on what we got to move through this time.
Yoga Sutra 1.1
अथ योगानुशासनम्
atha yogānuśāsanam
“Now, the practice of yoga begins.”
How liberating it is to learn something new.
Much love and blessings, until next time.
