International Tennis Hall of Fame The International Tennis Hall of Fame preserves the history of tennis and celebrates its champions to inspire the next generation.

Following a visit to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in the early 1950s, Jimmy Van Alen, then-President of the Newport Casino, and his wife Candy, decided that tennis also needed a place to honor its great figures. The Newport Casino was in danger of demolition, and with its rich tennis history, it was the perfect spot to establish a hall of fame. Jimmy Van Alen successfully lobbied the leadership of the United States Lawn Tennis Association to sanction the establishment of a National Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport. The venerable Newport Casino became the National Lawn Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum and was officially recognized by the International Tennis Federation in 1986.

The ITHF's Be Legendary program brings the stories and values of tennis legends to the next generation. During the second annual trip to Newport, 12 young athletes from around the world came together for the 2026 Induction Celebration and the opportunity to experience the International Tennis Hall of Fame together.

Along the way, they connected with Hall of Famers including Rosie Casals, Gigi Fernandez, Bob and Mike Bryan, Martina Navratilova, Andy Roddick and Leander Paes, hearing firsthand about leadership, teamwork, overcoming challenges and staying grounded. A special experience with lessons they can carry back to their own communities around the world. 🌎

Hall of Famer Billie Jean King helped the United States win the inaugural Federation Cup in 1963, beginning a legacy that has seen generations of tennis greats represent their countries on the world stage.

More than six decades later, the competition that now bears King’s name continues to connect the history of the game with the champions shaping its future.

Twelve young athletes traveled from communities around the world to Newport for an experience that went far beyond tennis.

During the Be Legendary program's Legendary Weeked in Newport, participants from Australia, England and across the United States spent the 2026 Induction Celebration learning from Hall of Famers, exploring tennis history, playing on the Hall of Fame’s grass courts and building friendships with one another.

All 12 students returned home with dynamic memories, inspiring mentors, and a global support system, ready to Be Legendary in their own right. 🎾🌎
