MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Some members become part of the fabric of the Newport Aquatic Center—and Mark Schulein is one of them.

Mark has been a regular at the legendary 5:45 a.m. “Willie Workouts” for years, rotating between his OC1 and surfski. He jokes that he showers more at NAC than at home because of those early morning sessions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I consider it one of the three points on my triangle of life—my house, my office, and the Newport Aquatic Center,” says Mark.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But more than being an NAC “lifer,” Mark is one of our biggest supporters. He sees beyond his own workouts and understands the value of the community that makes this place so special. His passion for giving back, connecting with others, and helping NAC continue to thrive is what makes him such an incredible member.

🏆 IRON CHAMPS 🏆

What a way to wrap up the first half of the season! 🌊💙

NAC rolled into San Diego with 16 crews and rolled home with 8 podium finishes—but the headline of the day belongs to our Open Men, who pulled off the rare feat of taking 🥇 1st AND 🥉 3rd in the same division. An incredible performance by the team! 💪🔥

All three Novice crews reached the podium in their respective divisions and took home medals! 🥇🥈🥉

From our Novice paddlers to our veteran crews, it was a day full of fast racing, great memories, and plenty of laughs. Huge congratulations to everyone who represented NAC at Iron Champs!

Named after Coach Mijo’s words before the biggest race of their season — “Six minutes of pain for a lifetime of glory” — the shell now serves as a reminder to every athlete who rows it.
