Happy International Women’s Day! We all know women are strong as hell. Does your body match your strong spirit?
Honor yourself by committing to one of the best things you can do for your body and longevity: strength training.
The benefits are manifold, but one huge reason to make this a priority is the fact that lack of activity leads to significant muscle loss as we age.
That impacts our joint health, back pain, osteoporosis occurrence, propensity for injury, and day to day quality of life.
Experts recommend strength training- with challenging weights!- two to three times per week.

❤️Recent studies found that eating more meat, especially red meat and processed meat, was linked to a higher risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease - a 22% higher risk for about every 1.1 serving per day, per newsroom.heart.org.
It’s suggested that this goes beyond the known association between meat and saturated fat, but rather implicates red meat’s impact on the gut microbiome and its link to cardiovascular health.
👉Cut back on red meat consumption and bump up your fiber and veggie intake with this quick weeknight chili recipe.
Beans are great for heart health, and this recipe is fantastic for a pantry clean-out. Use whatever variety of beans you have on hand.
We promise you won’t miss the meat!

❤️Did you know that exercise and activity are two different things?
Exercise describes an intentional effort to raise your heart rate, strengthen your muscles, and increase your flexibility. It’s structured time you set aside for focusing on your physical health.
Activity, on the other hand, describes how much you move throughout the course of the day.
In addition to setting aside at least 30 minutes to exercise 3-5 times a week, increasing your activity level is essential, too. Being too sedentary throughout the day can increase your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes and even cancer.
👉Spread your non-exercise physical activity throughout the day by going for a walk around the block first thing in the morning; getting up to move for a few minutes every hour; take the stairs instead of the elevator; and parking your car at the far end of the lot.

❤️Experts recommend that no more than 7% of your daily calories should come from saturated fats- and unfortunately many of our favorite desserts, like baked goods, ice cream and other dairy products, are high in saturated fat.
Meanwhile, diets heavy on unprocessed foods like veggies and fruit significantly reduce biomarkers associated with heart cell damage and heart strain.
👉Strike a balance and still satisfy your sweet tooth by swapping out an indulgent dessert for some seasonal fruit.
Some in-season options in February: apples, grapefruit, kiwi, oranges & blood oranges, passion fruit, pear, persimmon, and pomegranate. Yum!
