Day 2 of Metamorphosis Week!
Today we explored the second stage of the butterfly’s life cycle: the caterpillar.
Using construction paper, glue, and a little engineering, our artists transformed flat paper into playful 3D caterpillars. By rolling strips of paper to build the body and placing them on handcrafted leaves, they discovered how simple materials can create artwork full of movement and dimension.
There was a moment of pure amazement as the caterpillars began to take shape, proof that sometimes the most magical part of art is watching ordinary materials become something unexpected.
At Spark, we’re always looking for ways to blend creativity with hands-on problem-solving. Every project invites children to experiment, think in new ways, and experience the joy of bringing an idea to life.

Metamorphosis Camp is officially underway!
Today we began at the very beginning of the butterfly’s life cycle: the egg.
Our artists created beautiful mixed-media collages using paper, oil pastels, and layered textures to illustrate leaves in nature with tiny butterfly eggs tucked beneath them. Along the way, we explored the fascinating science behind where butterflies lay their eggs and why this first stage is so important.
One of my favorite things about today’s project was the balance of science and creativity. While we learned about the butterfly’s life cycle, every child interpreted the lesson in their own unique way, resulting in artwork that was as individual as they are.
We can’t wait to see this week’s transformation unfold—one stage at a time. 💚

This week, our studio became a passport to the world.
Each day we explored a different country through art, history, storytelling, and hands-on creativity.
🇬🇷 In Greece, we designed ancient-inspired pottery.
🇮🇳 In India, we created elephants and intricate mandalas.
🏛️ On Wednesday, we visited the American Museum of Natural History, where our curiosity expanded beyond the studio and into cultures, continents, and the natural world.
🇫🇷 In France, we found inspiration in Van Gogh’s expressive brushstrokes.
🇲🇽 And Friday, we learned about the history of piñatas and the tradition of papel picado, creating our own versions while celebrating the rich artistry of Mexican culture.
Art is a window into the world. Every project is an opportunity to spark curiosity, celebrate different cultures, and help children see both the beauty of our differences and the connections we all share.

Art is so much more than a finished piece.
We believe every child is naturally creative. Our role isn’t to tell them what to make, it’s to create the conditions where their imagination can flourish.
Join us this summer for our 11th season.
Ages 5+
Half-day, full-day & extended care available.
Running now through early September!
Because children deserve moments of stillness, too.
In a world that constantly asks them to go faster, do more, and pay attention to everything around them, meditation offers something different.
A chance to pause, notice their breath.listen and settle into their bodies.
To simply be.
Our meditations are short, playful, and age-appropriate. Sometimes we imagine floating on a cloud. Sometimes we listen to birds outside the window. Sometimes we practice gratitude or simply enjoy a quiet moment together.
These few minutes aren’t about sitting perfectly still. They’re about helping children discover that calm already lives within them and that they can return to it whenever they need.
At Spark, we’re not just teaching art. We’re helping children build the inner tools to create, connect, and move through the world with confidence, presence, and joy.

Art and yoga have always belonged together. Here’s why we make space for both:
1. It helps children regulate their emotions.
Breath and mindful movement give kids simple tools to navigate big feelings.
2. It builds focus and presence.
A few minutes of yoga helps children settle into their bodies, making it easier to engage deeply in creative work.
3. It encourages confidence, not competition.
There are no grades, no winners, no “best” pose. Children learn to trust themselves and honor their own abilities.
4. It sparks creativity.
When the body moves, the imagination opens. Yoga invites curiosity, playfulness, and fresh ideas.
5. It supports the whole child.
We care just as much about how children feel as what they create. By weaving together art, yoga, mindfulness, and play, we’re nurturing resilient, compassionate, creative humans.
Yoga isn’t an extra activity, it’s part of how we help children slow down, connect with themselves, and create from a grounded place.
Ready to join us this summer? We offer half day, full day, and extended care options to fit your family’s needs. Send us a DM or visit our website ❤️
Camp season has officially begun and one of our favorite traditions is back.
Every Wednesday, we leave the studio and head out to experience what we believe is one of New York City’s greatest classrooms—the museums!
Today, our campers wandered through , standing beneath towering dinosaurs, exploring the mysteries of our oceans, marveling at gems formed over millions of years, and asking the kinds of questions that only curious children ask.
Each child brings along a sketchbook to capture what inspires them throughout the day, and when we return to the studio, we use those sketches as a starting point to elaborate, expand, and create.
At Spark, creativity doesn’t begin and end at an art table. It grows through experiences. Through wonder. Through seeing the world with your own eyes.
New York City offers an education unlike anywhere else, and we’re committed to making sure our campers experience it, not just read about it.
Every museum visit, every park adventure, every neighborhood explored becomes inspiration that finds its way back into their artwork, conversations, and imagination.
Here’s to another summer of creating, exploring, and discovering the very best our city has to offer.

10 years in the making…
What started as a small part of Spark helping a few students build art portfolios has grown into one of the most meaningful parts of what we do.
Guiding young artists.
Watching their confidence grow.
Seeing their work evolve.
And celebrating those moments when they get accepted into NYC’s top art high schools.
Today, we’re proud to share that this work now has its own home.
Spark Portfolio Prep is officially live.
A space built for families who are ready to take this journey seriously with clarity, structure, and real artistic guidance every step of the way.
We’re beyond grateful for every student and parent who has trusted us over the past decade.
This is just the beginning of the next chapter.

Happy Launch Day!
We’ve been waiting to share this with you.
After 10 years of helping NYC families navigate the art high school admissions process,
Spark Portfolio Prep now has its own home.
For years, this program lived inside Spark through after school classes, camps, and conversations with parents. And while so many families found us that way, the truth is… this work has grown into something deeper, more focused, and incredibly impactful.
Helping a child go from “I like to draw” to creating a portfolio that gets them into schools like LaGuardia, Art & Design, and Frank Sinatra … that’s a journey. And it deserves its own space.
So I built one.
The new site is designed to give families clarity: what schools are looking for, where your child stands, and exactly how to move forward. If you’ve been thinking about art high schools, or wondering what the process even looks like … this is where it begins.

We’re excited to announce that Spark is coming to (Alpha School) of NYC this spring.
In just a few weeks, I will be launching a 7-week art enrichment program designed to give children something deeper than just an afterschool activity, a space to create, think, and express with confidence.
This one is personal. I’ll be starting and finishing the program myself, working directly with the students to set the tone, build trust, and push their creative boundaries. Alongside me will be our Lead Portfolio Teacher, Mr. Casey , whose experience guiding young artists brings an incredible level of depth and intention to the work.
What makes this partnership special is alignment.
We share a belief that children deserve agency, the ability to make choices, take risks, and develop their own voice through art. Not just step-by-step project, but real creative exploration.
At Spark, we don’t just teach art. We empower kids to think like artists, to observe, interpret, and create with purpose while building up their confidence. After visiting this beautiful location today, I am excited to showcase what we were all about.
Looking forward to bringing our energy into Alpha and building something meaningful together. If you’re part of the Alpha community, we can’t wait to meet you!
