Looking back at Dance for Dance for Social Change 2026! Our student performers joined us for this special evening and proudly performed dances they helped create. We are so proud to celebrate their artistry and the joy they brought to the stage at D4D!

There's still time to support Dance for Dance for Social Change 2026! We bring dance and literacy education to NYC public elementary schools with zero arts education and often no physical education. Every donation supports Mark DeGarmo Dance’s Partnerships in Literacy through Dance & Creativity, bringing dance and arts education to historically under-resourced, marginalized, geographically isolated, and disenfranchised NYC communities and public elementary schools. Help us help others! Keep our programs flowing!

On Wednesday, June 24th, Dr. Mark DeGarmo presented as a Keynote Speaker at the 4th International Interdisciplinary Symposium: Border/less 4.0: Beyond Crisis: New Acts of Creation hosted by Beykoz University’s Faculty of Art and Design in Istanbul, Turkey.

His presentation, "Embodied_Imagination--Creativity-in-Action" connected DeGarmo's origins and life in dance with the nonprofit dance institution and charity and 4 of the programs he has created and the lives impacted by them since 1982.

This year’s theme, Beyond Crisis: New Acts of Creation, examined how ongoing global instability, including environmental change, socio-political upheaval, and technological transformation, can be understood not only as disruption but as a catalyst for new forms of creativity, innovation, and interdisciplinary practice.

Looking back at Dance for Dance for Social Change 2026!

Our "Educational Visionary" Lifetime Achievement Award 2026 honoree, Dr. Daniel Lewis, is an internationally recognized performer, teacher, choreographer, and author. His acceptance remarks reflected his lifetime dedication to the arts of dance and teaching. Artistic Director of the Limon Dance Company Dante Puleio presented Dr. Lewis his award, highlighting the lasting generosity, mentorship, and profound impact on generations of dance artists and educators that Dr. Lewis had.

In Dr. Lewis' award acceptance speech, he remarked, "Although I have received many awards, at least 9 lifetime achievements, an honorary doctorate, more plaques and proclamations naming many days Daniel Lewis Day, this day is very special to me. It is the first time I am receiving an honor from a former student (that is, Dr. Mark DeGarmo)."

The final day of our Dance for Dance for Social Change 2026 fundraising campaign is here & we’re asking for your support to help sustain this work.

We still need to raise $15,000 to meet our goal. If we do not raise these funds, Mark DeGarmo Dance might have to eliminate school partnerships next year, impacting hundreds of under-resourced and marginalized NYC public school students who rely on outsider providers like us to provide their arts and dance education.

That means students like Ms. Levy’s won’t have access to creative learning, movement, & literacy integration through dance.

Every contribution helps students thrive, whether $1, $10, $100, or $10,000. Please help us keep all of MDD’s school partnerships alive for the 2026-27 school year.

Donate before the end of the day today: https://markdegarmodance.org/donate/

Dance for Dance 2026 may have taken place on May 7th, but our fundraising campaign continues for 2 more days, and we still need your help.

We are $15,000 away from reaching our goal. If we do not raise these funds, Mark DeGarmo Dance might have to eliminate school partnerships next year, impacting hundreds of under-resourced and marginalized NYC public school students who rely on outsider providers like us to provide their arts and dance education.

Please help us continue bringing dance, literacy, creativity, and social-emotional learning NYC public elementary school students. Every contribution makes a difference, whether $1, $10, $100, or $10,000.
Donate before this Sunday, June 7th, and help us keep our school programs alive: https://markdegarmodance.org/donate/
