Our CONNECT program is announcing a new journaling group! All community members are welcomed to participate, reflect on ideas, and practice writing with intention together. Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Lisa Scott-McKenzie, Commissioner of NYC Aging, during our pop-up pantry. The older adults were very excited to see her and receive hand-delivered produce bags. We want to thank NYC Aging for supporting our fresh grocery pantries happening every Wednesday and Friday this month. With the support of NYC Aging, HMH has been hosting pop-up pantries for our older adults! Every Wednesday and Friday this month, volunteers gather at our City Hall Older Adult Center to pack and deliver hundreds of bags filled with fresh fruit, leafy greens, hefty starches, and more.

We are always looking for new volunteers, so if you are free any Wednesday or Friday in August, reach out to HMH Volunteer Director Chris Ho to sign up! 🍎🥬🌽

HMH has been bustling with visitors who tour our sites, learn about our programs, and meet our wonderful staff and participants! We were joined by Peter Gee from Little Tokyo Service Center, Camillia Lui from Public Health Institute & Alcohol Research Group, and Jay Kim from Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance — all bringing their individual forms of expertise. We also had the pleasure of touring social worker leaders through the Taiwan Fund for Children & Families, who were interested in U.S. social work practices. It is always a privilege to be able to show off the work we do and make new connections, whether locally or internationally!

In June, we hosted our Volunteer Appreciation Celebration, paying tribute to all of the volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to HMH’s programs and services. We honored our long-time, distinguished volunteers: ESL Teacher Dorothy Kehl, ESL Teacher Michael Kancso, and Tai Chi Instructor Wai Lan Lee. The event had delicious food, raffle prizes, and gifts for our attendees. Volunteers make it possible for us to reach and serve our community members in need 🧡
