Thank you magazine for including me in your Sept- Oct issue (The Design Innovators). Canโt tell you how much I appreciate the acknowledgement of my work and my designs. What a great way to start my Monday morning! ๐๐๐

My brother and I both love the words of Maya Angelou but โWhen Great Trees Fallโ is by far one of our favorite poems. I had the intention of reading this aloud last year at my motherโs service but I knew that there was simply no way to get through these powerful and poetic words without completely breaking down so I included them on the back of the program in remembrance of both our parents instead. The final words of the poem have become a bit of a mantra for me, particularly during these troubling times in America. โThey existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed.โ I will always think of the struggles of our ancestors and continue to strive to be better. ๐๐ฝ๐ค

Itโs been a full year since my mother passed away, and what an incredibly strange year it has been. Emotionally, I donโt want to go back to the place I was at in ICU on this very same day last year. Those of you who have lost a parent understand what I am talking about. It is an overwhelmingly difficult and emotional experience that makes you feel utterly raw, diminished and child-like. I am still grieving this loss, but I remind myself daily how very lucky I was to have had a mother (and a father) who cared deeply, because once you grow up you realize that not all parents do. I love this pic of my mom from an photo shoot of Thanksgiving dinner at my house in Germantown many years ago because it brings back lots of happy memories. Trying to focus on those today. ๐๐ฝโค๏ธ

Throwback to my younger, thirty-something self and the national coffee ad I was featured in. Not sure about the โnudeโ lipstick color choice but as I recall, it matched my dress and that was a thing at the time!๐โ๏ธ๐ @ Harlem

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my big bro who had to put up with a lifetime of incredibly annoying, little sister antics but despite that, somehow managed to grow up to be one of the most patient, thoughtful, well-read, (and fittest) 59 year old men I know (ok -truth be told, he will kill me ๐ซ ๐ชlater for posting this pic since heโs not really the kind of guy to walk around without a shirt or mask although this was pre-covid/post touch football then sit down on beach to read Shakespeare type of pic ๐๐ธ)!! ๐โค๏ธ๐ @ Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

If there is enough space I always try to make sure that every guest bedroom I design and/or decorate has a writing table, a loveseat or bench and a dresser or wardrobe to put clothes in. A plush carpet also helps to create warmth while helping to tie all of the decorative elements together.

Whatโs hanging above your bed? Art or no art? Are you worried that something is going to fall on you in the middle of night? This client chose simple, light weight, framed black and white photographs for their guest bedroom. I think it was a wise choice!

For those of you who miss seeing Pallet House, this one is for you! So far the house is looking good and working really well since I finished the renovation. BTW Iโm very proud of the geraniums I planted back in early June. I just moved them into new galvanized planters that I bought online from . I am probably the only person who cares about owning a watering can and planters that match my galvanized roof and gutters! Itโs all in the details as they say!! ๐บ๐ฟ๐๐ @ Pallet House Livingston

I used a combination of bluestone and river rock to create the coping around my swimming pool. The goal was to create a detail that was complimentary in color but had textural contrast. I found the pair of stone jack russell terriers at an antique store in Hudson many years ago. They are a nod to Dolby and what fun we had together for 14 years. ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐ถ๐ฃ @ Livingston , New York
