Returning September 11, Beyond Technique is the class for professional dancers, actors, and movers looking to deepen their performance with nuance and authenticity.

Combining modern dance vocabulary, including Limon, Graham, and Humphrey, with Anna Sokolow’s signature style of “method dancing,” Beyond Technique explores how we use internal motivation as the pathway to movement.

Toeing the line between theater and dance and pulsing to a jazz score by Kenyon Hopkins, “Rooms” reveals the unfulfilled yearning of characters isolated in their small, city apartments.

Sharing the program with us is Dancefusion performing “Threnody” by another modern dance great, Mary Anthony.

ST/DE is joining forces with Dancefusion at the Philly Fringe Festival to present “Rooms/Threnody - Sokolow/Anthony,” celebrating these two giants of modern dance.

Anna’s seminal work of longing and isolation is powerfully paired with Mary Anthony’s “Threnody,” following the love and loss of a mother.
