At what point does optimizing your health start getting in the way of living your life?
As the coauthor of *Outlive*, Bill Gifford helped bring longevity into the mainstream. But recently, he shared a reminder that feels especially relevant in today's culture of constant tracking, measuring, and self-improvement. The goal isn't to become the most optimized version of yourself. The goal is to build a life you actually want to be around for.
Because health isn't the destination, it's the vehicle. And if your pursuit of longevity is costing you connection, joy, spontaneity, or meaning, it may be worth asking what you're really optimizing for.

Most longevity advice wasn’t built with women in mind.
For decades, much of the research on aging, metabolism, exercise, and longevity was conducted primarily in men. Yet women live longer and often spend more of those extra years managing chronic disease, cognitive decline, and mobility challenges.
According to experts, a truly female-centered approach to longevity needs to consider factors that are often left out of the conversation including hormonal health, ovarian aging, the mental load women carry, and even the role of social connection.
